This isn't specific to Vanney and that interview, but i am truly tired of a form of reporting that puts the microphone in front of the exec of any team and just has him say that ____, the guy they got, wow, he is a guy they had rated much higher.
Mo did it every year, there was a cult on here fed by Beirne of celebrating the endless genius of Mo in running the draft. This reached a crescendo the year he took O'Brien and Cronin and didn't take Gonzalez. Same "genius" thing happened when Payne traded down for Bekker et al, and passed on Farrell.
All teams do it. Regardless of who does it.... it's just endlessly dumb.

"There are some people who might have better technique than me, and some may be fitter than me, but the main thing is tactics. With most players, tactics are missing. You can divide tactics into insight, trust, and daring." - Johan Cruyff
He had about 6 talking points about Endoh that made sense. But, yes, they were talking points. And, that's what coaches do these days.
****
FWIW, Vanney didn't talk about the players drafted last year like this. Those were all guys for the future. I think he sees Endoh as a better right wing version of Lovitz. Lets see how the kid does against guys with more power, speed and experience.
Tbh I don't really get some of the over analytic discussion ... the Draft as of late is (this year especially was supposed to be) a crap shoot, I mean lets be real, there has been a few guys that no one had pegged to do much in the second and their still in the MLS while some of the more highly touted 1st rounders are now working in the field they took in school.
My personal take on the pick for what its worth is I think he's got some great potential, is a great future pick and as someone said above the Japanese program is well known for their level of commitment, I'm slightly excited about this pick and for one hope he progresses in our system well and makes our roster, even see an appearance or two this year.
The largely meaningless 3rd and 4th rounds go today at 2pm. TFC have picks 59, 70 and 80 today. All picks will more than likely end up with TFC II. Wouldn't mind them being able to snag the Argie LB/LW Gomez today.
So The Robert Earnshaw pick is up for Vancouver...
annnnd they seem to have skipped it.
The Eriq Zaveleta and Clint Irwin pick is up
annnnnd they skipped it.
We pick Mitchell Taintor. That's for Bobby Convey.
And then pick Darius Madison.
Lastly pick Brian James. It's the money pick. We gave Columbus money for the pick. Unofficial but if it was from a 2014 transaction as noted elsewhere then it was prolly the Oduro for Rey trade.
WASN'T THAT FUN?

FORMER FULL TIME KOOL-AID DRINKER
For those interested ... Darius Madison probably would/could have been a top 10 pick. He was on Virginia's Cup winning team and IIRC scored the winner to put them into the finals. He was kicked off their team heading into 2015 for some off field incident. He played for UMBC and had a decent year. A Philly homegrown player, not sure whether he declined to play for them or vice versa, but some rumours he might have gotten blacklisted after said incident. Heading into the 2015 season he was pretty highly touted as being ready for the next step.
Got to love this kids intgram handle and to think the MLS published it.

Good luck to these guys. They're a long shot, but at least now they have a chance to make TFC II.
RSL, DC, MTL and LA all passed on picks, with LA even passing on their 2nd third round selection. Probably time to shorten the draft to 3 rounds.

Maybe not the worst thing to be shunned by the shit show known as Philly
I do wonder what Darius did off-field to justify getting him kicked off the team. Well, based on twitter, he is a dog-lover, so already a fan.
Also, looks like TFC is doing a lot of scouting in Maryland and Virginia.
Seems like the Union were interested is signing their home grown player.

So we pick up bodies that may or may not make it in USL and all those teams with USL who traded something to us for those picks don't use them.
Who are these people that can't be bothered to use relatively free resources to look at bodies to fill slots that would have to be filled otherwise? Regimes who don't want competition at their USL level are not really serious.
Yep completely agree, make a pick, take a look and if it does not work out move on. This is exactly what the Reds did in 2013 with Ashton Bennett and Taylor Morgan. The two late draft picks came into the pre-season, earned a contract and two months later were gone, having played one game each.

Or they simply believe there are better academy prospects in their system.
