Default Break Out the Julius James songs....

Hello Julius James!!!!!! (and Pat Phelan?)

It appears JJ did not get called by Trinidad....
    http://www.socawarriors.net/news1.htm

....so what will be the starting lineup Saturday? (I'm assuming Marshall is not available, even though Jamaica don't play until June 3rd)

    Here's three possible formations....

    1. Only one player makes his debut (James). But Smith is out of position. This is what I think Carver will do, as I think he would be loathe to ask both James and Phelan to play their first MLS minutes at the same time.

    -------Edwards-------------

    Wynne-Tebily-James-Brennan

    Dunivant-Harmse-Smith-Ricketts

    -----Dichio-Cunningham--------

    2. Since Smith is not a natural CM, Carver could also start Phelan in CM, play Smith at striker, and bring Cunningham in as a sub. But it would put two guys in central defense/midfield making their debuts togtether, which is maybe not such a good idea.

    -------Edwards-------------

    Wynne-Tebily-James-Brennan

    Dunivant-Harmse-Phelan-Ricketts

    -----Dichio-Smith--------

    3. Another refinement (if you'd rather have Smith at striker and Phelan in instead of Cunny) would be to bring JB back into central defense, put Duni at left back and put Phelan in at left wing.....but I think this would be a hopeless midfield...

    -------Edwards-------------

    Wynne-Tebily-Brennan-Dunivant

    Phelan-Harmse-Smith-Ricketts

    -----Dichio-Smith--------

[EDIT:BOTH VELEZ AND MARSHALL SAID LAST NIGHT THAT THEY ARE AVAILABLE SATURDAY, AND ARE THEN LEAVING FOR NATIONAL TEAM DUTY. MARSHALL IS STILL QUESTIONABLE FOR SATURDAY, HIS HAMSTRING IS STILL SORE]

    Julius James
He so good that he got two names!!

But why would James get the nod over Velez?

btw, I'd really like to see a Dichio - Smith strike force up front...any word on Danny's groin injury though?

We also have to assume that Dichio cannot go 90 minutes, which makes it likely that Phelan and one of Rosenlund/Gala/Melo will get significant minutes

You guys need some FLAVOUR in that Julius James song!!!

This is what I recommended in the old board:

    "Warrior James"

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BC1mSOY1hmI

    Oh oooh oh oh oh!
    Oh oooh oh oh oh!
Oh oooh oh oh oh oh oh oh oooh oh oh oh!

    He's a Socaaaaaaaaaaaa Warrior
Win or Lose DOUBLE J is a FIGHTER

    He's a Socaaaaaaaaaaaa Warrior
Win or Lose DOUBLE J is a FIGHTER

    (repeat)
The man is from TRINIDAD! I hope we give this tune a try otherwise you'll see me jumping with TRN LOL

I know Velez scored and everything, but James should have started beside Tebily on in Montreal. Velez could use the rest, and Tebily and James are more familiar with each other from the reserve matches.

Why would we want to rest someone who isn't available for the next game anyways?

Only problem is, he might be a little glum that he didn't get called for one of Trinidad's biggest games ever in Port of Spain (vs England on Sunday)...so maybe playing up the Soca Warrior thing is not so timely

    Because he might be tired

Okay, I know, but I just thought it would have made more sense to start Tebily and James in tandem given that they were more familiar with each other.

Dichio could possibly be out. He aggravated his groin injury in Montreal.

    If Dichio's out then I guess it's:

    -------Edwards-------------

    Wynne-Tebily-James-Brennan

    Dunivant-Phelan -Harmse--Ricketts

    -----Smith-Cunningham--------

Might put Smith at MF and go 4-5-1

We could be in serious trouble Saturday, folks.

It's got some flava if you go through the whole song instead of just the first verse.

I like the below formation as a better option. We know Jimmy B can cross, so having him play his natural position wouldn't be a horrible idea.

    -------Edwards-------------

    Wynne-Tebily-James-Dunivant

    Ricketts-Harmse-Phelan-Brennan

    -----Dichio-Smith--------

Question. Why wouldn't you put Dunivant on his natural side at LM and Ricketts on his natural side RM? Personally I would field this...

    -------Edwards-------------

    Wynne-Tebily-James-Brennan
    --------Harmse
    Dunivant-Melo-Ricketts
    -----Smith
    ------------Cunningham

As long as we are "In trouble" why not give the Melo's or even the Lomardo's of this world a chance?

I also think that it is time to get JJ in the game. GOOD TIMES!

Harmse plays "ugly" ball and is always only one move away from a red card, and CUnny...well, he just doesn't deserve to play unless we really still believe that there is any value to "marketing" him. Notishatding the horrific July schedule, or my distaste for the never ending MLSE cash grab, why bother paying them?

Curious if you've ever watched what Harmse actually does on the pitch, or if you just wait for him to make a tough tackle before coming out guns ablazing?

I'm far from a fan of his, but against Montreal he played a damn solid defensive game and I'm more than willing to give credit where it's due.

As an aside, as long as a player is wearing the TFC badge on the pitch they get my support during the game.

Totally agreed re:Unqualified support for TFC players. But they should earn their spot... Not just have it handed to them becasue they have "experience"

I also agree that Harmse wasn't that bad against Montreal, but we really can't afford this man down business with the team we will be fielding, and I think the refs have Harmse pegged fromt he get go.

Then it's up to Carver to control him. A good manager won't let his players screw up multiple times.

2 games. 1 red, and 1 yellow. NOBODY can control him. How many yellows does Edu and Robinson have this year playing a defensive role? Harmse should not be playing on this team. Also, in a 4-4-2 formation Harmse is pretty useless.

If Harse is not to be playing on this team, that's up for Carver to decide don't you think? If he's using him in a starting position, do you not feel that he has some form of trust in said player?
