We are learning MLSE was working on some other business this week. That legit would delay finalizing a DP signing, which requires MLSE approval.

In case you don’t follow hockey, the Leafs just extended Auston Matthews.

In case you don’t know hockey Matthews is Kylian Mbappé.

Is this the reason for the hold up on our new DP?

Maybe they are waiting for the new TD cheque books to arrive

No news out of training camp for days with the exception is that Delgado & Bradley have rejoined the group. AMAZING!

Hoping they see him at worst as a season long loan to the Fury. Best case he is a body to have run around for the pre-season until we make up the numbers.

As people on here know, I don't normally think the current brain trust is doing things for weird reasons - I don't call Zavs "the nephew" for example.

    BUT

I do wonder if Bakero is there because its then only 3 degrees of seperation between Pep Guardiolo & the coaching staff.

Bakero was pretty good in college. So he has a pedigree. And it does sometimes take a couple of seasons for guys like that to prove themselves. If he can't contribute this season, he has to go.

I so tired of coming here for news and there's no news. It's time for something big to happen. We have two weeks!

Me too. I am wondering if this new mgmt team is capable of fulfilling this desire.

My beef is we continue to give these (marginal) spots to non-Canadians. These are exactly the sort of roles that should be ear-marked for domestics that need time to prove themselves in a professional environment.

To say you HAVE to place a Bakkero or a Spencer because no Canadian is capable is comical. There more than enough depth out there to go domestic and it realistically has no impact on the team. Heck, maybe we’d still have Kaye in Toronto if we stayed closer to home more often.

Transfer window hasn't even opened. It opens February 7th. Only trades within MLS are occurring.

Lots of moves are being announced by other teams, just that their all being appended with the fact that ITC transfer won't happen until window opens.

If they have something lined up they wont announce it until the Auston Matthews buzz has faded

Teams can announce whenever but whether they announce it today, last week, tomorrow, it's all the same. The only thing rushing an announcement (or signing) does is appease supporters. Doing that is what we did from 208 to 2010 and I remember how that went. I'd rather them do things right, at their own pace, and definitely not do something just to make people on the interwebs 'happy'.

I agree. But the transfer window not being open isn’t the thing holding back an announcement.

The player can still back out at the last minute even if there is an "understanding."

I much prefer how the club is doing it these days. Only announce with final signature.

I am not happy or unhappy.

I will be fine if they don’t make bigger moves until the summer, the better market by far is in the summer. Osorio can play AM, Altidore will presumably be back in April and we can go 4-2-3-1 or something. Boyd will have to be good in CCL.

So long as they make great moves, when they make them.

Let's let them play their cards.

There's also the obvious PR thing that everyone knows is a MLSE/TFC staple. Have to make it flashy and as high profile as possible, especially since it's after Giovinco leaving. The Matthews hysteria needs to settle first for a maximum CP24/Facebook/Twitter attention hit.

As a nonpuckhead, I could not care less about a Leafs signing. Waiting for that to settle down to make an announcement would be bush league.

Live hits (CTV, CP24, others who I didn't identify) outside 50 Bay yesterday suggest you're in the minority.

Yeah that I agree would delay an announcement.

I’m with Ensco, and I think you, that we’re better getting it right than getting it fast. So I’m not going negative about the lack of news.

As long as we are getting results in the meantime. At the end of the day, we need W's. I don't care how we get them, we just need them.
This DP signing should just "Guarantee" those W's
