I would sign a DP CB instead of Belotti as JJ is fine. Then I would swap Akinola for a younger MLS back up striker and some GAM (if possible) and then use Akinola's U22 spot on Nestor even though he's 21.

A DP slot should never ever ever ever be used on a defensive position of any kind. It's a complete waste of a spot. Doesn't matter who it is. TAM's only if its worth it. DP's should be for strikers, wingers or an attacking CM....that is it.

    Romagnoli signed with Lazio.

There are still quite a few defenders in the $1-2M range out there but not many who’ve distinguished themselves.

Hopefully this is the time when BB is mining his contacts in Scandinavia and Africa as well.

Anyone know anything about this guy?
    Jason Denayer
    https://www.transfermarkt.com/jason-...spieler/277114

Just released by Lyon, long-time Man City loan out and 35 caps for Belgium.

EDIT: Former young player of the year for Celtic. Negotiating with Rennes. Would seem a solid candidate.

EDIT EDIT:…. and every club in Europe wants him, apparently. Soooo… would have to be a DP deal if we had any shot.

Quick google search shows Trabzonspor is also in the hunt. Would be interesting though.

Only really know him from FIFA. Kind of odd Lyon would just let a 27 year old Belgian international walk though.

Nah, checked up. He let his contract expire as he’s valuable. Half the big clubs in Europe want him.

Not sure we could get him even with a big DP deal.

    Newcastle, too.

He’s totally the profile we’d want, though. Lock-down defender, killer in the air apparently.

Disagree. At LAFC and later Nashville you see what a now DP level defender can provide and I don't even consider Zimmerman a DP level CB I would sign as you can do better. In bigger terms it's like what VVD did when Liverpool signed him. They were also pretty weak at the back and they paid very large for him but it paid off.

Also unless you are hunting for out of contract players then any transfer fee is amortized so if you want a really good CB then it would probably be a DP level deal.

I saw that name on Total TFC - someone mentioned he wasn't good 1 on 1

And we also saw what Drew Moor did. DP's are not for defense.

Yea I'd say ideal set up is a strong spine of DP - ST, CAM, DM/CM; with 2 TAM CBs and try surround them with as much talent or MLS experience a la Morrow/Beitashour as possible with the remaining cap space. Maybe I'm just missing 2017 lol

For whatever reason, CB has probably been the position we've had the hardest time filling over the years. Even though it's supposedly the easiest position to fill domestically/through the MLS draft.

It is but you have to actually have to keep your good picks and then use them on CBs instead of doing things like passing on Ferrell for Bekker.

Lol. Oh yeah, for sure. We should just be stockpiling CBs from the draft in the hopes one works out.

and this is organizational - i.e. Bill Manning has some culpability but more on Bez/Curtis and Vanney/Armas.

I always said just take the highest ranked CB unless a golden GK is available. Those are the only two spots I would take.

I wasn't even mad at us taking Dorsey over Tajon because who knows how that works but I was mad at Dorsey over St. Clair. That was just fucking stupid.

Top Italian Free Agents or Contracts Expiring

    Belotti
    Jorginho
    Gagliardini
    El Shaarawy

Number of Italians not requiring transfer fees or who are on their final year after Belotti and Jorginho is really really small.

Maybe? It's a reasonable explanation that addresses the delay in signing.

If Pastorello indeed is Fede's agent, then I am less inclined to expect any last minute #batshitcrazy legendary MRaiola antics.

On the other hand, lets all be cognizant that Fede is a bit of a quirky/weird cat.
There may be other... personal issues at play.
Remember, Insigne & Co. had about six months to 'acclimatize' to his decision and make the adjustment.
Criscito was, because I believe TheGoodson, the 'earliest' get. Although he seems to have arrived alone?
Hmmm... to be reviewed and discussed at a later date.
I believe Fede's situation predominantly developed within the last month.
His wife is an Italian / Roman celebrity; unique by her own individuality.
He may not want to leave her all alone to figure it all out.
He has 4 kids, the first sponsored or adopted a while ago with her.
The latter three born by his wife within the last 4 years; that means all under 4!
The Brunelleschi's are almost ready to field a futsal team!
He has got 2 English Bull Dogs.
    A collection of guitars.
They are probably trying to deal with the situation; the decision and the move as a 'family'.
Planning Visa's or ETA's, if parents- baby care are accompanying them, any home contents logistics, accommodation ideas, etc. ...
