Default Game 28 - Ashtone Villa - TFC Visits NYCFC Wed Sept 16 7:30 pm TSN

Putting this up early because NYCFC plays tonight in Dallas

    Talking points

Discussion will obviously be affected by what happens tomorrow evening

A win against an East team lower then us in the table is always a good thing.

    Will we see Lampard?

    Will we see Cheyrou?

Do we sit the walking wounded for what is our second last away game?

Will they press us within an inch of our lives like everybody else seems to be doing?

    ***

Note, if Villa gets a yellow tonight, he's out for the Wednesday game.

NYCFC might consider the game on Wednesday one of their few chances to get any more points in 2015 (rest of schedule SJ-H, Van-A, DC-A, OC-A, NER-H). They are going to come at TFC with hammer and tongs.

Villa subbed out at halftime in NYCFC's game today vs. Dallas with an apparent hamstring injury. May not be able to go against us, we'll see.

All 3 DP's out after 60 minutes. Only 20 degrees in Dallas so not a heat thing. Subbed to rest for Wednesday.

Well that and Lampard was awful.

We'd probably want the old men to start on Wed night by the sounds of this...

Back to the game. When Kreis subbed off all three of his DPs with 24 minutes left, many saw it as a capitulation. Instead, Diskerud and Poku, and Mullins before them, infused New York City with grit and energy, nearly drawing even with Dallas. Kreis made note of that in his post-game comments.
"I was actually really pleased. I felt this was a really solid effort on our group’s part," Kreis said. "I thought that collectively they were willing and able to battle a little bit more than I had seen them over the past several weeks. So really pleased with the effort and commitment level, and obviously just a little disappointed we couldn’t quite get that goal tonight to level things."
It was a dramatic change from the previous week, where the New York City head coach put his team on blast, questioning their effort and desire. There was no questioning that tonight; despite the loss, the Blues looked likely to score, and were unlucky not to snatch an equalizing goal at the end.
The difference? It's revelatory that despite having a bye week, and plenty of time to rest up, neither Lampard nor Pirlo could finish the game out. It's also revelatory that their substitutes gave New York City a vibrancy and intensity that was lacking whilst the two midfield legends were playing. I've been harsh on Diskerud, but putting him in for Pirlo jolted the midfield to life, and gave the Blues added teeth on defense. Poku was far more lively than Lampard, meanwhile, and gave New York City badly needed strength and pace against one of the fastest, youngest teams in the league.

We should rest most of our players because you know we have all these home games left that we are sure to win. I wanted to be the first to say that before the usual's come on here and say it, lol.

Fuck that, no rest for any players unless we have a large lead (up by 2/3 goals) by midway through the second half against NY.

Then you take off Giovinco and Bradley.

Were people saying we were sure to win vs NE? I didn't see that.

I think its pretty obvious we need to take these points against teams that aren't top half.

Needs to be 3 points after the disappointment against New England.

    This made me chuckle.

But seriously, I agree that we can't afford to keep players off the pitch now - of course unless it's a matter of health and whatnot. The fact is that we're heading into crunch time. Again, I feel like it shouldn't be said, but while it seems we're finally going to see the post-season this year, the games we play now in the run-up are really going to shape just how the playoffs will start for us. It's good we have a relatively large gap in points between us and Montreal and the other clubs lower on the Eastern table, but I say we push for as many wins as we can. NER are only 2 wins ahead of us and we have a game in hand, so it's not like asking for a miracle here.

We should win this game comfortably. Doesn't mean anything as we still can't really beat good teams.

then again, we haven't beat them yet this season.

Looks much better defensively with a DM in the line-up and allows for the full DP triangle attack. Both Cheyrou and Warner should mitigate against some of the recent defensive troubles. Not too sure how Williams is as a fullback but if he can be effective it is a good option since Morrow can return to his natural left back position. Additionally there should be much improved distribution with Perquis and Cheyrou starting plays. Regardless of the line-up, and I certainly hope it includes a DM, this looks like a good opportunity for TFC to take advantage of a team lower in the standings.

    Funny works for me.

The point was TFC saying Cheyrou is going to be playing. (well at least on the bench but weird if he doesn't start)

Well if you subscribe to the thought that the West is much better than the East, you can chalk down wins against the Quakes and Timbers as wins against "good teams"

NYCFC ran out of gas a long time ago. I expect a blood bath tonight. 4-0 TFC.
