KJ comes out and says this is the guy he has heard about - repeats the "its not done yet" line.

Transfer window in Belgium is closed so Genk would probably end up forfeiting their EL run if it goes through.

I suspect that’s the sticking point.

If this guy is what's near the top of our wishlist then we better hope we sign him, I don't want to see what the back-up plan is. Don't get me wrong Pozuelo would be good, but hardly an ambitious signing.

Yeah, that’s where the selling club’s transfer window does actually matter.

Are you sure? I thought people could still depart outside the window, just not come in. For example, Sebastian Giovinco.....

How did we sell Seba outside the window then?

They can but if the team can’t replace them why would they let them go?

Yes but the problem is for Genk. If they let one of their top players go, even if they get a hefty transfer fee, they can't replace him now because their own transfer window has closed.

yes, of course. A problem for them and we might not get this guy until the summer if that is the case. Speaks to how caught off guard Management was by all of this.

Apparently Genks average salaries are in the range of €235,000. Doesn’t tell us much. TFC’s average is something like $800,000

And there are problems for both Genk and Toronto FC in this negotiation phase. Toronto plays the nice guy role and says we will take Pozuelo in May after your Europa League run and then has the problem of watching their property (Alejandro Pozuelo) risk injury in tough competition (plus league play). If Genk falters in EL the local fans are going to be annoyed with the club putting a star player in a compromised position for months... is he ours or is he theirs?

Yes, they don’t want to let a key player go while they’re on top of the table and still competing in Europa League. As their window has closed, they can’t bring in a replacement.

Would be a big loss for them. Also, he recently signed a new contract after China was after him and the club didn’t want to let him go. His transfer fee will be over $10m as his old release clause was around that.

Pozuelo plays with Jonathan David, so David would have told Pozuelo all about Canada (if the rumour is true)
“Years have gone by and I’ve finally learned to accept myself for who I am: a beggar for good football.

I go about the world, hand outstretched, and in the stadiums I plead: ‘A pretty move, for the love of God.’

And when good football happens, I give thanks for the miracle and I don’t give a damn which team or country performs it.”

I just trolled through the 2014-2015 off season speculation thread - God we were all so naive then.

Anyways, I was trying to judge opinions of Giovinco at the time - consensus was strong that he was worth it but there were complications. Reading through the thread, there were a lot of potential transfers that ended in nothing but 2 big ones made in the end - Defoe for Alitdore & Giovinco in.

It took a long time to get it all together though.

Times are different now - we got 10 days. And there is no "In Bez we trust" feeling. Oh well, rather us then being an Impact fan.

Weird thought ruminating on those days.

What if we trade Jozy to Genk? Like, he goes there in August?

Trade Jozy? seems short sighted, unless TFC have other strikers in mind. Replace VV with Pozuelo I understand, but without scorers TFC would be all feed with no finish.

Interesting proposition to have Pozuelo come now on a fee but kick Jozy to them for free in July. Wouldn't do it myself but interesting.

Ehh... won’t happen. Belgian league salaries are quite low for an “end of career” move. Free = more salary + bonus, so even more doubtful.

Jozy's not making end of career moves yet. That'll be closer to 32-34 years old (injuries willing).

Pozuelo would seem like a rushed signing, hope this isnt the solution from Giovinco
