after the canada fun, back to the tfc grind.

Will TFC get their glorious summer?

what sort of changes can we expect to see from paul mariner, will it make the slightest bit of difference, and will he finally be the one given enough time to actually do something?

Mariner At The Helm for TFC

    http://viewfromthesouthstands.com/20...-helm-for-tfc/

A look ahead at some of the more interesting storylines that might emerge starting Saturday in Kansas City as Paul Mariner officially takes charge of the helm for TFC and I propose three realistic goals for the Reds to measure success by for the rest of the season.

Mariner Starts Off With A Loss in KC

    http://viewfromthesouthstands.com/2012/06/tfclosetokc/

My post game video look back at an inauspicious start for Paul Mariner with a 2-0 loss in KC, plus a TFC player who seriously disrespects himself, the club & the fans.

Thoughts on the arrest of three TFC players in Texas and what it all might say about the culture of this team plus links to arrest documents in Houston.

    Houston previews.

What next? with the tfc 3 back home and Cann out, can a depleted tfc lineup come together in adversity and get a surprising result?

Know your enemy. part 1, looking at probable lineups and recent form and part 2 looking at tactics and areas to exploit.

and finally, an anti-anselmi reworking of "where you lead" by carole King.

TFC Don’t Lose – But They Don’t Win Either

    http://viewfromthesouthstands.com/20...lose-dont-win/

In this post game video blog I take a look back at the 3-3 draw between Houston Dynamo and Toronto FC and try to document the full list of emotions I felt as the game swung back and forth for the two hours.

I give Julian de Guzman my Man of The Match honours and I try and come to grips with the question of was this one point earned or two points lost for Toronto FC.

TFC Draw at home to New England 2-2

    http://viewfromthesouthstands.com/20...ppointedagain/

In what was arguably a bigger disappointment than the draw in Houston earlier in the week the Reds blow a two goal lead in the 94th minute to drop yet more points at home on Armed Forces Day.

In my post game video blog I take a look back at the disappointing draw, find some positives in the play of JdG, Koevermans, Morgan and especially Kocic and I take a look ahead to Montreal on Wednesday, a critical chance for the Reds to gain ground on Montreal. I also include some video from Armed Forces Day at BMO Field, including the memorable flyover of the two RCAF CF-18's.

    Gents and Ladies,

Today's blog features a great shot of the Anselmi banner as well as some very interesting stats under Mariner's tenure vs Winter's 2012 MLS Campaign. Believe it or not, we have actually taken steps backwards in almost all categories.

As always though, not pointing a finger at him to be fired. Clearly, accountability for the mess of this franchise resides in the office of Tom Anselmi.

    http://www.sportsnet.ca/fanfuel/2012..._paul_mariner/

    From the Blog:

2012 MLS Results Under Winter (Average)

    Possession: 47.9%
    Passing: 72%
    Duels Won: 49.7%
    Shots For: 15.9 per game
    Shots Against: 11.7 per game

2012 MLS Results Under Mariner (Average)

    Possession: 37.2%
    Passing: 61.3%
    Duels Won: 53.7%
    Shots For: 10 per game
    Shots Against: 13.3 per game

Aaron averaged 1.17 points per game over his tenure.

    source: http://www.wakingthered.com/2012/6/1...to-fcs-coaches

Mariner: 0.67 or .5 points less per game.

    So what's your point?
MLS is a tough, physical league, that emphasizes speed, and features plastic fields, grueling travel, extreme weather, and incompetent refs. - NK Toronto

the stats presented in his post above reflect 2012, correct? so, why not include points per game average...that is my point..

I was looking at it more from a perspective of "vision" since that was the focus in making the change and of all the talk related to "hoof ball" that we kept hearing about. Some talk about Mariner's system being better suited to MLS. Others suggest that players will respond to his approach. A decline in virtually every category... off a baseline that led to pathetic results... seems to suggest that so far, it hasn't worked.

As for PPG, neither coach should be proud of it.

For me, looking at stats and expecting immediate results is reasonable considering the goal here is to keep the pressure on the FO's organizational structure. No one is asking for Mariner to be fired based on these results.

BUT the results are a cummulative total that lead directly to our leader, T. Anselmi. I thought it was pretty clear in the blog.

i don't want to come across as pro-Mariner or anti-Winter, all i'm saying is that you didn't just post the link to the blog, you took a snippet of the blog that provided stats from 2012 and left out one, imo, important stat, and that is points per game....obviously neither of them have a good ppg avg, but i think it is fair to point out that Mariner's results vs Winter's (3 gms v 10 gms) is almost 100% better...

the reds may shit the bed in the next 7 games, but all they would need is 1 point out of the next 7 to equal AW's results...
