Ask about the short term and long term status of the North stand area.

What is the contingency plan in the case of a bad weather event or something along those lines which makes the field unplayable?

I imagine if the field was deemed "unplayable" they wouldn't play the game. There are contingency plans, however, for if the field is torn to shreds due to downpour etc.

Believe that plan would be to to put in new grass (takes up to a week) but would still leave it no time to take root.

Long term solution for field is still up in the air.

If we could see that contingency plan in print it would go a long way to assure STH. We've talked about the plan to death here and still so many don't know how they will deal with groundshare wear and tear.

They played in that bog for Defoe's first game ... it would take ALOT to move a game.

I'm curious of the effect the mild weather has had on construction. Will they be completed ahead of schedule and would MLS move the grand reopening game date?

I doubt they would re-adjust the home opener for us if the construction ends sooner than expected. There is just too much that would need to be re-arranged in terms of TV Broadcast deals and stuff to move up the home opener sooner at this point.

I can tell you right now, they will be finishing the stadium at the last minute, same as last year.

I must say, I agree with the poster who said it feels VERY intimidating. I really like this. Feels like a legit stadium now in my opinion. More then perfect for a team that's 10 years old. Really, really, really happy. This will make me want to go to more games this year. It really pumped me up to want to go to more games this year.

I agree, the stadium looks awesome, and I can't wait to check it out... but that excitement will disappear pretty quickly if the pitch is shit.

Shit pitch will also deter the older footy fans. Many of which avoided TFC in it's infancy due to the plastic pitch.

Kurt Larson's article from his visit today. Interesting there will actually be north end seats, some Argos recognition? and a potential phase 3..

RE "potential" phase 3: that tells me none of the old problems were fixed so far. Unheated bathrooms with cold water; pipes not insulated so future March/April games will be "fingers crossed"; drainage problems on the West concourse not fixed. (The roof may help a bit there -- but with prevailing west winds & a very high roof, it won't help much.) And more: you name it!

Anything on the North sides will obstruct the field for Argos games so unlikely.
If it was a Soccer stadium maybe they would have put something to block the rain, but definitely not as a multi-purpose stadium.

MLSE execs think about them too. Here's the corporate protocol.

    1. Go to the Air Canada Centre.
    2. Stand on the south side, the same side as the press box.
    3. Look up.
    4. See them huge party suites full of hyped up noobies on game days, paying exorbitant prices ($17.50 beers!) for food and drink?
    5. Now think about a variation of that filling the gaps at the top of the west side.
5 b-ish. Maybe a new media centre in the middle. Not too big, mind.
    6. Project potential revenue and count dollars until you fall asleep.
    7. Wake up and repeat.

I would have thought MLSE would have been all over that idea. That will probably be incorporated into "phase 3". It's not like MLSE to pass up on free revenue

Man this thing looks impressive, but I'm still scratching my head wondering what the point of the roof is if only a quarter of the people will have cover from it during a wind/rain event. When it rains down at BMO, most times the wind is a factor too being so close to the lake and no other big structures around. Why not factor that in when building this thing?

The point of the roof, based on my conversations and touring the building, is to both keep sound in and protect many fans. Far more than 25% of fans will be protected. Put it this way: Unless the venue is completely sold out (it won't be) fans impacted by rain will likely be able to relocate to seats that are protected. It will make a difference.
