Media coverage for this team is definitely growing up.

Nice to read a good piece focused on the opposition for an upcoming game.

Also, Grabavoy still rehabbing a knee injury, won't be playing against TFC: http://www.sltrib.com/sports/ci_14987743

It's going to be a tough match for TFC tomorrow despite the fact that RSL has won only 1 of their first 5 matches. With TFC playing on two days rest, at that altitude, against a side that will be very motivated, I'll be satisfied with a draw...

on their boards it mentions that there might be a few rugby games played at rio tinto right before our game.....so the field might be a bit worn and there might be lines on the field...i guess we will see

Ouch. After a snowstorm in SLC yesterday, and cold weather now preventing it from drying very quickly, I can't see the rugby game being very good to the pitch before the TFC game...

I'm getting fed up with Paul James.

Does he ever slag off Vancouver? And his implication that last year's team was technically better than this year's just shows how thick he really is. We had players last year with more skill, but that doesn't guarantee that a team is technically better.

Can Vancouver come into the league already so he can fuck off from whence he came?

With regards to TFC going to RSL, I know that altitude takes a physical effect on the body, but isn't it more psychological (ie: having the mentality that you're not going to perform all that well due to altitude)?

I don't really like it but James is accurate in his assessment of this team. TFC work hard and seem to be getting committed to a system which is fine with me if the results come. But James is right whe. He says that we don't have a whole lot of technical skill and it doesn't look pretty most of the time.

I read it on the way to work - it was refreshing and interesting to read about our opponent...

it's nice to know that the MLS wants to push for the CCL
we're light years behind mexico though.
how hard is it to go 'oh well they've got this massive youth, academy, reserve that they have' though really?
i'm not expecting any MLS team to have a chance of winning the CCL for a good ten years. don't get me wrong, i'll be THRILLED if we win it.
but it is damn nice to know that the MLS is finally starting to take that tourny seriously.

TFC lack panache and quality. Really?

News Flash, Paul. You can say the same thing about the entire league most nights.

Hard to think positively about MLS the same week Champions League games are on?

Steve Sandor's scene-setter another good piece by him.

Yeah, for a guy with a lot of footballing background, I don't know what the hell he was looking at.

I have found Paul James to be very unwilling to let go of his personal preferences and biases when writing. I respect his knowledge and experience but I see more and more why he's had run-ins and conflict with the various areas of soccer in North America.

Yet DC United has already won it (once).

In a Cup competition, anything can happen. Is it likely an MLS side will win? No, but anything can happen.

RSL's only win so far had a goal by Morales with an assist by Espindola.

Whitecaps' temp stadium that they'll use in MLS for a couple months is going up...

    http://theoffsiderules.blogspot.com/...ing-along.html

The article says the Caps are negotiating to play in the renovated BC Place stadium for 15 extra years.. wow... guess there goes the SSS idea.

Both stadiums will be fake grass.
They need to move that stadium project along for a real home with real natural grass.

    LOL.

Well one thing we can be happy about is there is a system in place. It will take a few seasons for them to be able to add players who can play the system and be technically better. If they can upgrade a couple of players a season, things will be ok. Right now we just have to deal with it.

Now, god forbid if Mo is still at the helm next draft, he will, if he is smart find better technical players that can fit the system. Easier said than done though.

As long as Preki is in charge and chooses the players, I think we don't have too much to worry about.
