I spend a lot of time monitoring brit media and Canadian football, in the wake of the women's gold, Davies and David is extremely hot right now. A lot of folk in the old country are fascinated that we finally have ballers.

Can’t imagine the pressure that goes with the tag of “The next Davies”. Hope the kid makes it even if it is just to like the next Tajon level. At least with JMR not leaving until the summer maybe we will get to see his MLS breakout season in 2022

3 of the first 4 are against teams that missed playoffs and 3 of the last 4 are away from home...if theres a bad start it will get very difficult

Seconded. Let’s speculate on things we’re qualified to - like multi-million dollar transfers.

Agreed. Not speculation but this piece on BB was pretty interesting:

This is a really cool analysis. It's amusing, though, that once you break down all of that data and comparative value.... you end up with the exact conclusions fans have reached for two years: Westberg is a better keeper than Bono, our central defenders suck, our forwards are unproductive due to injury and we have no real holding midfielder.

They should've sent this analysis to Curtis and then hired somebody to explain it to him.

I almost feel like we are the only people on Earth who think Bono sucks. Everyone else seems to be impressed by his height and good looks.

If the amount mentioned in this article is what we are actually offering Insigne, there is no way he isn't coming.

^Given our track record, I am inclined to believe that we'll be caught flat on our feet if Insigne doesn't work out with no plan B.

Oh, yeah. We'll definitely be scrambling to find someone. Fortunately, any agent following this saga will be breaking down Bill Manning's door the second this goes sideways and offering each and every one of their clients to him if we have that kind of money to spend.

In case the aggregators who make this stuff up need a hand…. Del Piero went to Australia, not MLS

The Athletic is reporting that TFC and Atlanta are pursuing former Sounder CB Shane O'Neill in free agency.

the quote from the agent was in regards to an experience abroad after wearing one kit for so long (napoli), seems to have been lost in translation.

As long as the price isn't too crazy, these are the kind of signings we should be getting on fast. We lack good depth everywhere and beating the line to reasonable domestics is key.

Shane O'Neill was on $115k last season. Assuming we got him for that, it would essentially replace Zavaleta's salary. Good value

Even if we gave him the "bonafide offer" boost it would still be fine. Hopefully the allure of real grass over his familiar carpet wins out on this one.

I think market for O'Neill is a lot higher. Guessing $250-300K area. Using DeLeon 2-3 years ago as my comp.

There is no way that report of 20 million per year is accurate. That's more than triple the highest salary of the top DP and almost equivalent to the LA Galaxy's league-leading payroll of $20,322,677.

I could see it as $20 million over 3 years for $6.67 million (which would still be higher than Vela's $6.3 million highest DP salary)

Got the numbers from here, which is based on the MLSPA numbers

In the article they say 20 million and then say 11 million Euros per season which is roughly 12.5 million USD.

Top guys on top teams (and yes, Spurs are one) start at 7-10M euros a year and go up. Cavani makes something like 12M euros.

If Spurs want him, they will get him without breaking into a sweat.

That's more of a reasonable number. I should've done the euro conversion. 12.5 is a bit high for MLS standards (based on past/current DP expenditures), but not completely ridiculous like the 20

My understanding is that he's on $7M a year under his old deal but Napoli is only offering $3.5M per season for each of two years with two more option years.

The original number being bandied about after Manning's visit was E15M but my suspicion is that it was $15M for two years with options, or $7.5M per season. That would put him in line with the league's top earners, meet his demands from Italy.

Just makes more sense. I don't think the league is going to sanction $10M per year players yet. Sort of number that gets owners nervous.

spurs are not offering a 30 year old anything close to what we are, especially in a position where they are already well equipped (son, lucas, bryan gil)
