Default FC Barcelona to face Sounders FC, Galaxy on U.S. tour

NEW YORK - FC Barcelona, one of the world's most popular and successful clubs - and the current UEFA Champions League and Copa del Rey finalists - will return to the United States this summer for the second consecutive year. FC Barcelona will tour the west coast, taking on the LA Galaxy on Saturday, August 1 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. (11:00 p.m. ET), and the Seattle Sounders on Wednesday, August 5 at Qwest Field in Seattle (10:30 p.m. ET). There will be a third game to conclude the FCB Tour. Details are being finalized and will be announced shortly. The preseason tour was announced today by Major League Soccer (MLS) in conjunction with FC Barcelona and the MLS teams.

It may have something to do with the fact that BMO holds about 20k. Significantly more capacity at both the Rose Bowl and Qwest field

yea but the arrangement that is place with the stadium or another company is to have grass installed for soccer games. Whether or not they do it for MLS league games or not I'll bet that there will be grass in Qwest when they play barca

Let's not forget Canada faced Brazil there last year as well. The Qwest coast is sure gettting the lions share of good teams visiting.

More than likely if Barca comes it will be at the Rogers Centre. Do the same thing they did a few years back when AS Roma, Liverpool, Celtic and ?(I forget the 4th team) played here.
They spent large $$ to have real grass in place for the games.
Close to 60,000 for each game.
    I paid $125 for a mid-price ticket.

I am still amazed that they can book these friendlies for meaningless games but the All Star Game gets lower rated teams.

ROGERS CENTRE!!! If the Galaxy move this game from Home Depot Center to the Rose Bowl ... I can see TFC doing the same.

We play the Sounders and the Galaxy every year.

How do you not want a home game at BMO in February....can't be that bad can it? Ultimate home field advantage playing a team from a much warmer country with a few snow flurries in the air!

I hate to wine, but man it's frustrating to see Seattle getting Barcelona compared to what we've had hear 2 years in a row. Well, grass can no longer be blamed as it was last year.

This game would have to be played at the Roger's Centre to be economically viable. Grass will have to be laid. That means $$$$. Barca will have to be paid. That means $$$$.

Rogers Centre had a capacity of 54 000 for the last international friendles. Subtract the 16 000 season ticket holders and that equals 38 000 more seats to sell. If the average ticket price was merely $80, then the extra revenue generate from the gate would be $3 million. Not including private boxes and other revenue streams.

    No brainer.

    'A few snow flurries'!?!?

I swear, people get a couple of weeks of nice weather and it's like everyone forgets exactly how bad it gets in the dead of winter.

If you think Wednesday's attendance was bad, imagine what a Wednesday crowd in February at -10 with gusting wind and snow would look like.

Also, we play at a 5th or 6th rate stadium. We are never getting a high profile friendly like this until we A) expand B) lay grass.

Even if Qwest keeps turf on there field its not turf that is played on all winter by people who rent the field. Our turf is flat carpet. Its sad.

^I thought the turf is still groomed and kept up with new toxic tire bits? Having said that, our turf does look flat.

i don't know the extend of usage, but QWest is used by high school and occasionally NCAA football, as well as the Seahawks of course
