Ayo botches a chance and tears the goalies ACL all in one movement.

You're telling me Cassius couldn't have tapped that into the net? That was awful by Akinola.
You're a forward who in theory specialises in "quick move on goal from a cross" and you are not ready for that?!?!?!
Great ball from Spicer. Hope that’s a sign of things to come from him.
Didn’t quite understand why Prince was subbed out… but man, Ayo, we really need a striker!
These announcers are awful. "Late challenge" ?!? They both jumped at the same time for the same ball.
Zero idea on how to breakdown a bunker while a man up.
Come on guys!
Yikes. 35 minutes without creating a chance.
We work hard, but damn we have no offence.
that was bad, herdman needs to stop with the no number 9 lineups.
There was a lot of concern it be a rout tonight with all the injuries. No rout on the scoreboard but routed in play. Sloppy, no rythum.
Jesus H Christ do we need a striker.
Akinola should never see the field again in a TFC jersey.
Yeesh - a bad night in Toronto sports…..
Berna has been FAR better this year, but his side volley & backheel attempts near the end were more of the frustrated version of him we saw last year.
Akinola actually tried to pass that sitter. Fucking unbelievable.
Injury FC are back , unless they get a hold of these constant injuries to key players this again will be a long season .
Will forever stand by my take that Ayo was given that u-22 spot so that Manning could say he signed the first Canadian to a u-22 contract in MLS history.
The most worrisome was how lackadaisical the defending was. All over the place. Worse, too casual and ball watching. Not picking up players making runs.
Lots to work on still. Lucky that NYCFC only put two goals in. Gavran can't save everything
“Years have gone by and I’ve finally learned to accept myself for who I am: a beggar for good football.
I go about the world, hand outstretched, and in the stadiums I plead: ‘A pretty move, for the love of God.’
And when good football happens, I give thanks for the miracle and I don’t give a damn which team or country performs it.”
-Eduardo Galeano
Very much agree with this.
My spec, and we see it all the time, is opposition players hate that field and thus think its just a struggle that has to be gotten through & you move onto the next match thankful you won't have to do that again. So they don't put in the mental work necessary to play well because "its a struggle."
We add that to the mental issues of last year with TFC and we end up with guys not tracking, bad passes, nobody presenting themselves.
i.e. As soon as they started pressing around the 25th minute, we didn't have an answer and decided to survive rather then figure it out. At the end, same thing was going on offensively - we can beat their press because there isn't enough space so what can we do.
The answer to that place is pacey wingers and quicker ball movement - we don't have the former and couldn't do the latter.
********
My concern is this was the very first mental test we had this season and we didn't rise to the challenge. Its only one game...but lets see what happens if Atlanta sucker punches us next week, for example.
wow alot of over reactions tonight.nyfc were 0 and 3 to start the season playing in a bowling alley and injuries.lets see what happens in the next 2 home games
There was always a chance we came back down to earth. With the number of absences from the squad and all the other oddities about this game, not entirely surprised.
Lot of players on this team (we all know who they are) who really need to start showing something or they’ll be on the chopping block in 12 months. I think we are wasting our time with a lot of them carrying them into this season.
For our TFC HG guys: Akinola and Thompson, primarily. JMR should be sent back to TFC2 or loaned out to the USL.
Franklin better than the above and actually tries but I don’t know if he’s quite first team ready (although he’s certainly proven to be above MLS2). Potential loan candidate as well I’d say.
Someone needs to tell TFCA we’re looking to graduate men, not children.
That became ugly in a befuddled kind of way… actually quite a few ways.
Not to mention that we don’t have the roster for more than one or two injuries, probably. Richie is a big one. Except maybe to the strikers because we don’t have even one of those yet who is adequate. I think Herdman playing Oso as a false 9 the last match said a lot about that.
It still does amaze me that the league allows anyone to play on a baseball field. It’s always weird to watch on TV and it must be stranger to actually play on it, especially for the first time.
