Our new conditioning director is an adjunct at UBC. Go figure.
With the number of comings and goes in management over the last six month TFC has basically restructured itself. Why on earth any owner would leave that task to the guy who screwed it all up in the first place is beyond me.
The one thing I will say is I have a lot of respect for the scout who worked under Herdman with Canada football. He was constantly finding things out and staying ahead of the curve.
He could be a really great find for club level if those skills translate.
I guess that’s life in the career world in any leader, management or exec position. You build a network of strong work partners/tribe of specialists and council that allow you to get the best out of yourself, and help make buy-in and execution on any future state visions of your organization, or new projects a lot easier without red tape and politics.
- that’s what herdman’s doing- it’s what all bosses or ambitious folks aiming for higher stakes does. Bring your tribe with you as you move up. He needs to if he’s to succeed in this mess.
Still, I can’t help but get kind of annoyed that it feels like this is just an exodus of the cmnt staff pool, & and a mix of herdman bringing his tribe, giving them an out from the shitshow that’s our WC team since he’s leaving too.
I don’t think it’s something I like, and it’s gonna take some warming up and some repeated results to completely sell me. I fully back our NT and the lads, and want to live the day when we can compete on equal talent and professionalism to the big NT’s- but I absolutely abhor the back room old boys club clique rings in the soccer circles from provincial to NT levels that ironically slow down this countries progress, and the last thing I wanted was to get a sense that that vibe was coming to TFC. If manning thinks this is how we can become a domestic giant like a Bayern, Benfica, Barca/RM, or Ajax - and fill it with domestic football clique/circles, this ain’t it it.
I’ll wait and let the results change my perception and buyin lol. These lads might be the best in the league and I eat crow - but perceptions and optics are a hard thing to change.
I can't believe Conway is finally gone. Well, we'll have to see if my theory TFC goalkeepers degrading under his guidance was correct or not. Monsalve was my son's GK coach back during his Ottawa Fury days while Monsalve was their Third-string GK, and my son seemed to like his style of coaching and learned stuff from him. I would have thought they'd go with GK coach with more experience though. I hope he does well.
I wonder how much of that is due to a different coach or just getting out of Toronto and having a new environment around him? He was here for what 7-8 years so the change probably did him some good. I know keepers usually can play longer than most players and probably mature at a later age too..but how much do you think a 29 year old is learning new things or picking up stuff due to coaching?
But I'm glad he has done better this year at least. I haven't checked in with Westberg were you checking in on him too?
Not sure but at 29 you can learn good habits and increase hand speed. For instance, I am learning a new type of music in a new band I am in and it is way faster and more complicated than anything I did before. I am learning on YouTube, improving fast, and I am a lot older than 29. So it can be done.

Surely you make a funny? IMO, Herdman. Is. Not. An. El Loco. Never will be!
dunfield has lowered the standards to the floor, coach wise, so herdman can thank him for that.
bob was fired (rightly, imo) for achieving about 1 ppg (slightly less) over the first 20 games.
dunfield has an average right now of 0.25 ppg over the last 12 games, got to be one of the worst record in MLS history for a coach in place for over, say, 5 games.
i know the squad isn't strong but it's not nearly as bad as it's been made to look via incompetent coaching over last few months.
This had to be the plan. There's really no other reason to have done it or stuck to it. Unless they figured tanking it would make certain players with difficult contracts more willing to mutually terminate.
Either way this is a HUGE nail in the Hernandez Death Watch column. Bill's has more nails in it than Home Depot at this point so why bother even mentioning him.
This unless! This very sinister thought. I was stewing on it throughout the entirety of last nights match as Apple kept cutting to 'overlord's watch' just note taking. The clearest signal that someone, in some dark MLSE corner, decided some time ago to boil all our frogs.
Agreed. And yet again, this is on Manning for not having a managerial structure in place that would bring in a suitable replacement. Bob’s reign was looking shakey for quite a while before we pulled the plug, how we could not have the foresight to have at least a suitable intern staffer in the building is beyond me.
This is all not as hard as TFC is making it look.
This is all about getting top pick in the superdraft. Dr Evil level of genius.
Former field coach Paul Stalteri is the new assistant coach of Team Canada.
So Scott Arfield to return to the CanMNT....
God I hate the ol boy nature of soccer in this part of the world
How awful has this Terry period been? This has to be the last time he is allowed anywhere near a team. They should have fired the interim for another interim after 4 loss start.
With Bob they had 18 Pts in 20 Games, with Dunfield 3 in 12 while losing 2 league cup matches! 1 win and 13 losses!!
To contrast, Javier Perez an actual qualified manager and not someone Bill Manning knows managed a 5-9-9 record, not great but 24 pts in 23 games with no DPs is not a catastrophe.
