it sounds like minnesota were trying to sign him, but failed.

so flipped to dallas for 50K net (50K to cover cost to tfc, and 50K extra, which the spots are worth).

    dallas did, really.

we and minnesota both made 50k (minnesota were trying to sign him and failed, dallas were desperate enough to cough up an extra 50k)

    The 50K is a symbol.

Herb Kelleher at Southwest Airlines always said: if you have coffee cup stains on the tray tables, you should wonder about the engine maintenance.

The money doesn’t matter, but it screams: we are rubes.

the fact that tfc got 50k for a guy who hasnt played for them for 3 years is the most stupid part of this.

    It does not.

    Dallas are the rubes here.

Not only did they give up an extra 50k, they signed liam Fraser.

Nah, in deal land, this one looks like we just undervalued the deal. That's what Ensco's talking about.

The 50K for a player who's been gone for two years is just a stupid MLS rule; but it's one where we clearly could've gotten 100k. So...

It's a small thing but it's the kind of thing other GMs pay attention to. They all want to one up one another.

Probably obscure rule that meant tfc couldn't deal directly with Dallas but Minnesota wanted compensation for facilitating the trade.

I don’t think the money particularly matters. We’re talking about a rounding error here.

But ensco is right that it makes us look dumb (unless there is further context here). It basically means Minnesota knew more about the market than either Dallas or TFC and as a result got $50k just for getting out of bed.

I dunno, this gam thing smells like MLS nonsense to me. I love to dunk on our FO but what do we think happened here? The second trade was almost instant

So either Dallas had already approached Minnesota about a player they had no rights too instead of approaching us which makes no sense. Why negotiate a deal with someone who doesn't own what you want when you have a direct line to the actual owner?

Or Minnesota got him knowing somehow that he was suddenly a sellable asset, shopped the rights we had for three years with no takers and by some miracle *instantly* found a buyer?

Neither makes any sense to me. This was some MLS funny money bullshit. I don't think we were fleeced the way it looks because I can't make that scenario make sense at all

Here are Osuwu's two goals in their last game of the season (in which his team blew a 2-0 lead)

Here's his goal from the game before at Braunschweig; he makes up for missing a penalty with an accurate finish on the run

Here's his goal against Sandhausen, nicely taken, although he misses a point blank header earlier (albeit with a defender draped all over)
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x8kk60v

...And his goal against Gruether Firth,

This one against Holstein Kiel is around the 1:40 mark. Verrry nice turn and finish

Another decent headed goal against Heidenheim...
    https://www.bundesliga.com/de/2bunde...lbericht-21895

He gets the third one here against Kaiserslautern off a cross, after coming on as a late sub.
    https://www.bundesliga.com/de/2bunde...lbericht-21576

....and I think that's all but two of his goals from lastyear. Phew!

Are one of those two his own goal against St. Pauli for their 1-0 loss?

Thanks for digging all these out. My early read is he’s capable but perhaps a bit frustrating at times. Nothing wrong with us taking a flyer here and seeing if he works out. Commitment isn’t long so I’m generally okay with it.

There is also the likely possibility that Minnesota were negotiating with Fraser, then those negotiations fell apart and he was going to sign with Dallas.

And MLS being MLS Dallas would have to pay Minnesota for the privilege of signing him. When they go to file the paperwork MLS informs Minnesota that they didn't actually have the right sign him in the first place, forcing them to pay TFC.

My early read is that he makes our current crop of strikers look like they should be playing high school still.

This is what happened. Minnesota tried to sign him, so go the rights from us. They then failed to reach terms, and he reached a deal with Dallas instead. No one's actually sweating the 50K, it's just an indicator they could've gotten that from Minnesota initially.

Some people are definitely suggesting that the 50k not being 100k is a sign of incompetence from TFC. I admit they are incompetent. Though I don't think this is symptomatic of that.

It's fairly ridiculous that we got 50k for the rights to a player who hasn't played for us in years...

The sooner mls does away with some of these rules the better.

You are missing the point. It's not about the 50K, it's about the principle of getting half what Minnesota got.

In finance, getting half what someone else got for the same sale is embarrassing, period, end of. It could be 5K versus 10K. It could be a baseball card worth half the value of another baseball card.

The sum isn't what's important. Getting the best deal is. These guys deal in widely varying values all the time; but they judge and weigh wins and losses over each other in perceived gain and loss, not the number. It's what you got over the other guy that determines if you cut a square deal... or if you won... or if you killed him.

It's just locker-room bullshit, for the most part, but it does affect how they perceive each other over time.

That's true. I may be losing touch with what regular competency looks like among footballers.
