Yes, but its not been fair to him the last few months at TFC.......we gotta be nice to the "boys"
**********
People have been on here talking about the US old boys network, and rightly so.
The Canadian "Old boys" network is just as bad and just as deep and we DESPERATELY got to get rid of anybody coaching us right now due to the lack of oversight beyond "well, he's a good guy.."
(yes, this is a DeGuzman subtweet)
For those keeping track it has now been 619 minutes since the last TFC goal
This says it all, the Reds have suffered six straight shutout losses since Dunfield replaced Bob Bradley and its goal drought now stands at 619 consecutive minutes. The team hasn’t scored since a 2-1 road loss to the New England Revolution on June 24, which was Bradley’s last game in charge. They’ve also conceded a franchise record 15 straight goals. You can't make this shit up, this team has to figure something out, hope they make the most of this three week break, looking in the mirror, reflecting on what they have to do to right the ship, figure something out.
Remember The Man, The Legend, The Goal 5-12-07 and All That #9 Left On The Pitch, Thanks For The Memories !!!
Our next league goal will come in March 2024.
This needs to be taken on as it is being repeated endlessly (nothing personal).
Why is Hernandez a "proper" GM? He moved MAK for a journeyman MLS player. He took an Atlanta prospect on loan. Yay. He bought a South African player, interesting - what are the connections that lead him to believe he has an edge in that market? What does anyone think Hernandez' personal scouting/talent networks look like?
TFC have - never - hired a "proper" GM. Not ever. We have never ever rated the position, MLSE has always - always - thought the wallet could do the job as needed.
Hernandez' resume is 4 or 5 years or whatever years of working in a junior capacity for and with Vanney (OK that's good), Curtis, Armas, Bob, Manning. Four of his five "mentors" are objectively terrible. He has never previously had a decision-making role anywhere.
This is what the background of a successful MLS executive looks like, just to remind everybody: "Tanner ... comes to Philadelphia following 24 years of previous technical experience with three European clubs: TSV 1860 Munich, TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and Red Bull Salzburg. Tanner played a key role in the discovery and/or development of some of the top professional talent playing in Europe today, including: Roberto Firmino, Kevin Volland, Sven Bender, Lars Bender, Niklas Süle, Sebastian Rudy, David Alaba, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Duje Caleta-Car and Sadio Mane."

Thinking Hernandez is the answer seems to me to be just Stockholm Syndrome. We don't act like any other world is possible, or that we deserve better.
The fans, Kilbane, JDG, need to put pressure on TFC to have a "proper" GM and structure, and not just accept the fact that anyone is better than Bob (even though that is true).

"There are some people who might have better technique than me, and some may be fitter than me, but the main thing is tactics. With most players, tactics are missing. You can divide tactics into insight, trust, and daring." - Johan Cruyff
Agree but this can't happen until Manning is out. This should be the way it goes though. Fire Manning and hire a straight up business guy to run the business side of the team and hire a "showrunner" like Tanner or another very experienced exec to control everything about the team (manager, academy, physios, style, scouting, etc). Let that guy have free reign and report to the board directly.
Totally agree. Our management structure and the quality of the individuals hired is just completely unacceptable.
Dunfield doesn’t have a single notable academy player to put on his resume, yet the club is seemingly holding that up as success worthy of an interim coaching gig. He is no Perez and our futility in part speaks to his lack of ability. It’s also telling that we don’t have an acceptable interim coach within the club.
Hernandez has done nothing to deserve a shot at a GM gig with this club. There is no tangible success worthy of the promotion. His claim to fame is seemingly arm-chair quarterbacking Bob. The fact the board certified his hire is ridiculous.
We need real professionals with strong track records to take over this ship. From the president all the way down.
Some quotes from Oso and Petretta about Dunfield:
“A great person and a great personality,” midfielder Jonathan Osorio, Toronto’s longest-serving player, said of Dunfield. “He is a good coach. He is putting us in the position to be successful. But there’s a lot of variables right now that we have to deal with that even he does not have control over.
“He’s doing everything he can, and as players we’re backing him.”
“It’s on us, on the pitch,” defender Raoul Petretta said. “We have to work harder, we have to be better.”
Oso also hinted the team needs more firepower, basically.
“We’re all aware of the situation with goals,” said Osorio, who twice hinted in his post-game scrum that management needs to look in the mirror along with the players. “We have to work collectively.
A good manager can turn a team around, but only if it has the talent to begin with. Ours does not. I don't think it's fair to judge him based on this stretch; I don't think anyone could win in MLS with this lineup.
I'm not going to claim he has experience that doesn't exist.
But I'd also note that prior to being GM, Bez was a lawyer in the MLS front office.
Prior to being named GM of the Denver Nuggets, Ujiri was a scout. He had two years as an assistant (the same as Hernandez) before being made GM.
Lots of people in sports are named directly to top jobs without extensive executive experience first.
Condemning them for not being experienced enough could perhaps wait until they actually fail.
But "arm-chair quarterbacking Bob" is, as far as I can tell, the polar opposite of what was going on.
While Bob, Jack Dodd and every other internal manager was metaphorically blue skying the club president, the only person who was saying we're in trouble BEFORE the season even started was Hernandez. And he was saying it based on the quality of roster, not the coaching.
And I was told that by one of the people he was advising in FEBRUARY. So there's no revisionism going on here.
When we were screaming "uh, no starting striker! Excuse us!? Guys?!", I was being told by my team source "be patient, Bob has a plan." In March. In April. In May. In June.
Throughout that, that source was also saying "mind you, Jason says we're going about this all wrong." He wasn't being cautious about it; he was openly opposed to the grizzled veterans/inexperienced children route, citing the need for more balance.
So... he had enough foresight to spot it, and enough courage to raise it. He may yet turn out to be shit at fixing it.
But at least he recognized the problems. That's more buy-in with respect to common sense than I've seen since Bez left.
He's been in the job for a month. Perhaps giving him a chance to be our latest failure by actually failing would be more advisable that getting irate over a hiring that has happened and mistakes that haven't.

I am okay with giving Hernandez the job for next season unless they fire Manning and whoever comes in wants their own guy. Otherise like jloome said, let him have a chance to fail before we run him up the pole.
Cheers dude, though I'm afraid it's all mostly been bleak.

wow, zelarayan signing for a club in saudi arabia.
huge blow for the crew.
So according to Jim Brennan on Footie Prime yesterday, the reason TFC needs a sports science specialist is because Bob got rid of the old one in favor of his preferred consultant. As that person was a consultant, they left when he did.
Part of me thinks that was an unnecessary or unwise delegation of business authority to cede to BB by TFC/MLSE; especially given LT's/MLSE's role in nurturing Sports Science in Canada. Then again, it may have worked out for the best; seems the previous individual as well as Bob's consultant obviously we not effective.
at close to 72 this might be the end of arenas career...around the same time as his former assistant bradley

FWIW, so apparently an unverifiable mention on the Reddit has been made by a poster that it could concern a remark similar to a recent cringe comment Arena supposedly made about DJ Jones' hair/dreads during a club function. This does seem to follow the strict stance MLS has recently taken on these matters; especially after all the on-goings at DCUTD. Though, IIRC, their apparent firing of a staff member the other week for a photo taken that included that individual making the OK sign is borderline for me; especially if you understand the ironic origins of how that symbol that has historically had various meanings has supposedly come of late to be co-opted by the White Supremacists. IIUC, in Brazil it's used like flipping the bird here at someone and means your an a--hole. TBF, perhaps, given all the circumstances that the DC organization has recently experienced, everyone there may have been required to participate in a workplace sensitivity training course. After to which they may have employment tied themselves with a binding acknowledgement of their understanding that among many things that symbol was offensive.

Yeh, well there was also a time when the number 88 was a lucky number for a large segment of our population and prices during Lunar New Year would always end with those #'s - I used it in passwords in the 90's.
Then the Nazi fascist scumlords decided to use that # to commerorate their Austrian deity of a failed artist
&
they use the OK symbol, no matter the origin
Until the scummy evil ones stop using this, people shouldn't use either.
Sure, why not, context is of no concern nor matter. Let's ban the number 88 like SerieA has from all North American organized sports; and while on that task, just for good measure, the number 14.

Does this mean TFC SSH marketing may now be skewed to the Portuguese community?
Coaching selection tracks given TFC's recent past connect to Santos FC?

Do we not have a Women's World Cup thread? Please point me in the right direction if I missed it. I have been following the WWC much more closely than the men's last year.
I just wanted to mention -- as has happened so often with other last names -- TFC also signed the wrong Caicedo...
Maybe we should be using Bernardeschi deeper, in a central midfield role.
It would force him to run but also allow him more time on the ball and less need to beat guys with speed. It worked for Jayden, but Fede actually has the skill to pick out tough passes etc.
Maybe convincing him his future is as a midfield general is the way to save him from descending into uselessness.
