    saw this on twitter:

    "Consider this: @TorontoFC
have 10 draws & 5 of their 8 losses have been by 1 goal. They’ve been 1 goal away from 25 extra points in 2023."

can't help but think about what could have been this season had we signed a DP striker in the summer...

Probably some extra points but not many unless that forward could create on his own. Most likely he would have been stranded on an island while our team was following the Bob plan was busy working the ball wide so Berna could take on too many players and lose possession or Insigne would run to the end line to cross into a box filled with 10 opposition players.

i mean decent strikers make space and run in behind, also make space for others.

just last game sapong probably should have had 2 goals.

Last match yes and if teams let us play the way we want like RSL, NYCFC, & DC did.

We're still usually guilty of the same things though; Berna taking on 3 defenders and falling, Insigne going too deep and too slow, everyone taking forever to advance the ball with side ways passing. So really would depend on what type of striker we got. The previous suggestions of a true target man would probably fail. I think we would need a player that could unlock defenses on his own with the squad we have now. Hopefully when we rebuild the rest of the roster they put SPEED in big letters at the top of the list of qualities to look for.

But there’s reasons for this too. Berma and LI rarely cross because there’s no credible target in the box. Because there’s no credible target defenders are able to move very wide and provide help on each flank. So as much as their actions are predictable their effectiveness is also blunted by the lack of a presence in the box.

I’d welcome someone mobile enough to both take on defenders 1v1 and hold up the ball. But, given this is MLS and you sort of have to pick which attribute you want. Personally I would go with the target man and look to round out the team elsewhere. Like find guys who are faster to play anywhere in the midfield or forward line.

We must have the slowest front 6 in all of MLS. Would love to see the analytics on this but I virtually guarantee nobody has a slower attack. We are basically a 0% chance of hitting anyone on the counter.

So by this very logic, tfc could just as easily have 15 points less if they lost all those games, correct?

Wasn't Sappong's one goal on the counter? The year to me is just a blur of angry garbage so I can't fully recall so I will say our counter probability percentage is around 1%.

don't know how to respond to this other than pointing out you don't get 15 points from 10 ties and 5 losses.

just saying there have been very fine margins in a lot of our games.

we really shot ourselves in the foot by having probably the worst strikeforce in the league.

kinda kinda not. it was a tap in off a nice move in his first game.

just as a hypothetical, if we had 205-2018 giovinco in this team this year, how many more points would we have?

That’s fair, I’ll concede ok that one, haha

I feel like 2018 version was already starting to slow down but if it’s 2015-2017 version, 10 points, easily.

Sorry for the double post but I need to say it again, Osorio looks really, really underwhelming playing for Canada. And this is against minnows of the region. He scored today but also gave up the ball in the defensive third led to a goal for Cuba.

He looks like he’s going a Kaye-like trajectory sadly.

He's 31 and is getting more and more injury prone every year.

Unless his contract is heavily frontloaded, it's going to be very bad.

Yep, totally agree. And we saw the difference between contract-year Osorio who is a world beater and mid-contract Osorio who looks average before, I don’t know why we feel for the same thing again.

At this rate Coello, Servania, or Bradley would be our best midfielder. Yikes

We're gonna need a 2013 style season of just cleaning up contracts next year at this rate.

We can just do one of those every two years after Bill hires yet another shit coach and/or GM. The TFC roster cycle.

The biggest problem is we just signed a bunch of these guys to multi-year deals. Can't even wait for a bunch to expire.

bradley and vazquez likely retiring, sapong deal expiring buy out dio, trade kaye, and pray that the increase in GAM makes the rosted and petretta signings less painful.

oh, and ditch bernardeschi. guy is a cancer.

best thing would be if a saudi club bought insigne.

Maybe the Saudi’s should just buy us. I’m starting to think human rights violations are better than what MLsE subjects us to every week.

This team is absolutely horrendous. The youth, the vets, the coaching, the management, the ownership.. from the very top to the very bottom. Not sure if it was in this thread or another but someone else said we need an 100% overhaul. I couldn't agree more.

2024 needs to be a full on reset, with no traces of the crap that we're seeing right now. We may as well be an expansion team as we will undoubtedly have more success than retaining any of the existing personnel.

almost hoping we lose most games, the worse we do, the more chance bill manning gets fired.

El Salvador is set to be eliminated, so we may finally get a look at Tomas Romero Saturday.

really my hope for the remaining part of the season is sell bernardeschi, potentially sell insigne if possible, do some squad reorganizing (bring in a striker, maybe a CM), and hopefully a coach for last 10 games.

at least get the squad in a bit better spot for the new coach and hernandez to get to work on in the offseason.
