According to the Athletic, the MLS combine is no longer, along with the Superdraft, with all its hoopla. Instead, they will do a draft by telephone conference.
This shows the MLS shift towards academies more than anything else. There's still some value from the generation addidas kids and there's always a couple of draft picks that stand out but it's no longer a big deal.
Rollins reporting major Montreal news outlets showed up to discuss the Henry hiring & the Impact turned them away....because they don't normally cover the Impact.
So....Joey gets Henry for the hype.
In a town with the most single sport obsessive media in North America, the non Impact following media shows up to feed on that hype which would provide front page news in Montreal.
And the Impact don't feed that hype out of a false sense of "where were you" ness
All that balderdash about a president with ties to the Habs moving the Impact forward just got laid bare. Joey isn't back - he never left.
That's just mindbogglingly stupid. That can't possibly be the reason, can it? I mean, if you need media for free advertising, does joey really think they're going to cover him now? Maybe he's going of the business idea of scarcity of supply to step up demand, but I think that doesn't work in this case. I'm just shaking my head here...
3 Years ago today!
MLS did a great video recapping that 2nd leg vs Montreal.

In lieu of their move to Soldier Field next year, the Chicago Fire announce today a new name (sort of) and a new badge.

Kinda underwhelming, IMO.
TORONTO FC, 2017 MLS CHAMPIONS!!! (Still the greatest in league history!)
Very underwhelming IMO, though the original was too...
None of these two looks like one for a football team, lol.
Something like this would have been better:
They can have it for $900, and I'm also giving 30% from this to the person who will convince their front office to use my design (must be a dude from this forum).

Looks like they changed the name from SC to FC as well
Went looking for this today. One stop shopping to see what players have moved from what team.

MLS is a tough, physical league, that emphasizes speed, and features plastic fields, grueling travel, extreme weather, and incompetent refs. - NK Toronto
The Whitecaps thought the new Fire logo was, um, interesting.

We can have him back if we want.
I don't think he's worst than Mullins... of course none brings much to a team...
No thanks. He couldn't cut it here before and he probably won't if came back, There isn't anything he did in Columbus that could prove otherwise. CanPL is where he should go - to at least develop his finishing and then take a crack at MLS again in a couple years.
I see Burger King

So apparently the gold crown happens to be a symbol of one of the more notorious Latin street gangs in Chicago. Kids told not to wear one ever - that sort of thing.
18 months of research and....they tick off a good chunk of their citizenry.
And perhaps the dumbest thing about it is that the original crest was already one of the best in the league. I mean, it's not like it was Columbus, which absolutely needed a rebrand.
Classic case of 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it,' and now they've royally fucked it up.
Hopefully they just scrap the whole idea and stick with the original.
i dont get the mullins signing at all,,over 200 k for a guy they didnt want to play in the playoffs.why cant they move on from these kinda of guys,,,he is not that much better than a ayo or perruzza
i would of given that money to borges from the forge.
