The BMO Field Sunday Night Massacre
Wow.
If true I like the sense of urgency. The Panama game was the last straw. This can’t go on.

Waitaminit, weren't we all just extolling the praises of the grounds crew back at the end of 2017, beginning of 2018? Are these the same people who were just fired/quit?

Doesn't anyone find it strange that it was posted like that?
I thought they would quietly go about informing hiring agencies of new job openings. This seems over the top regardless if the account is private.
Seems like management want to feed our bloodlust.
I could see them all quitting.
The amount of abuse they take is ridiculous.
The jobs have been posted on the MLSE career section.

Wow.
I can't say it isn't warranted though.
Minimum wage basically, nice.
Yes it does seem very strange. However considering the situation, the complaints in past years, the concerns about the Argos groundshare, all the massive investments and promises for this year, followed by the awful field condition vs. CAI, they probably figured it's best to send a public message, also intended for the players, media and fans.
OK even stranger: check the responses to the original tweet that notthesun posted:
This guy tweeted a response: @Johnny_hena
The BMO Grounds Crew account @TFC_GroundsDept responded:Lol it’s about time the head grounds keeper got canned, that guy knows nothing
He didn't get canned. Also he was a wealth of knowledge. What's your lawn look like right now?
So apparently at least the top guy wasn't fired?! Perhaps he quit after the recent criticism? I don't know what to believe. And still strange that when there are personnel changes on the go, with the official job postings out, that this official account would respond to a tweet like that.

Again, if he did quit, I truly don't blame him, and I even think he deserves some compensation. It is beyond the pale the type of abuse that got thrown at him over a job so mundane as growing grass.
If he truly didn't have the right answers and they can find someone better I'll eat my words, but I feel everyone's expectations of what the pitch should look like in February we're way too high.
I agree this is a thankless, tough job but it's hard to argue that the pitch was as good as it could have been regardless of weather. Even compared to some NFL fields in January while in use, ours seems worse. I'm talking like Green Bay too. I realize it's different to have a ball rolling on it but I have never seen anything like the beach we had in the CCL match.
Well, as I said, if I'm wrong I'll eat my words, but I'd be willing to give them the benefit of the doubt for now.
I think the grounds crew have been terrible, but it's not the issue. It's a sideshow.
The issue is the Argos and the ground share.

Here's some highlights of a Europa League match in Kharkiv Ukraine on Feb 15. This is on desso, the widely acknowledged solution for cold weather grass.
When you watch this, remember that Ukraine is a relatively poor country in a state of semi-civil war btw

Kharkiv is colder than Toronto, and gets more snow

So why don't we have desso?
Because it doesn't work for multiuse with American football. This is exactly the issue Wembley has btw, they use desso (as does almost every major pitch in the UK), they keep trying solutions to try to figure it out, and there aren't any. Wembley keeps relaying it, which is ridiculously expensive, and isn't working, as relaying it only works as an offseason solution and breaks down once the multiuse starts.

If you think Bill Manning can figure out a solution that Wembley, the English FA and Spurs have been unable to solve for 10 years, then you really do believe in miracles.
The solution is to use desso, and stop the multiuse. Then we'd have that field in Kharkiv.

I said it many times but the modular turf is the only thing that will work for Argos and for our February matches.
