Wouldn’t mind some transfer news/speculation so we can move past the Zavaleta discussion. He ain’t leaving this offseason so no need to debate about his worth in the transfer thread.

That's fair however he wasn't the only player to have an off year.
Good defenders don't just grow on trees especially at the lower level like MLS.
We need other players and a system around a CB to fit them in MLS, the Mavinga's of the world are is truly a diamond in the rough find.
What we really need is another Moor. I think the reason Mavinga and Moor work so good together is because Moor is vocal and above average positionally and at organizing the back line while Mavinga is quiet but can cover a hell of a lot of ground so they compliment each other well. We need to find a younger CB with Moor's skill set.

Good to hear. I think he'll also be given time to play more offensively next year too. Any idea what the transfer cost is ?
That's one. Janson might be next.
Interesting signing. I'm guessing that means that van der Wiel will be playing at CB next season. I wonder if that means that they'll be fighting it out for the right back spot or if both will be playing together.
MIC DROP!
YES PLEASE! Thread title is "TFC 2018-2019 player off season moves/speculation/rumours." Maybe we can have another thread, similar to the Vanney re-evaluation topic, where we talk more about individual player issues; tactics; etc. Hagglund and Zavaleta were definitely problems in 2018. But there were also many other problems throughout the team. Things came to a head, and issues were exposed due to schedule congestion and huge roster gaps due to injuries. I felt the team (management, coach & players) rarely responded adequately to adjust to obvious weaknesses, and to avoid repetitive problems.

Happy to hear the news of Auro re-signing. I hope this results in us playing with VdW/Mavinga as the 1-2 pairing. The reality is, Moor will soon be 35, and body isnt getting any younger. Hoping he returns to form after a seaon of his calf and hamstring going - is exactly what it is... hopeful. Having him as the 3rd choice CB, would be perfect for managing his minutes & experience.
Now we need to get rid of one of Hagglund or Zavaleta.(I hope its the latter) And have young Dunn as the 5th CB.
I feel. Certain they'll be getting another vet CB to play at the back. Wouldn't be surprised if he had experience in the league too
Agree. I think it will Matt Miazga (whose loan just ended at Nantes) at CB on a TAM contract. VDW will stay at RB. Auro plays RW and neither Zavs or Hagglund will be traded. The season ends a month early this season and no doubt Victor/CPL are going to make the Cdn Championship schedule ridiculous so we will need all our CB's - besides we have tons of allocation money.
Hoping the DeLeon and Auro signings push VDW out of the club. Doesn't bring enough leadership nor quality to justify the price IMO. Players are only versatile when they're good at multiple positions. Other significant holes to fill.
I don’t mind him at RB, i don’t think he’s particularly good as a CB (example: https://youtu.be/qJyeAHrwj-E). But as you mentioned, hard to justify the price for a RB.
Think he’s gone in the window and we use the salary to pick up an actual CB.
I don’t get the signing of both Auro and Deleon. Is vdW leaving?

"There are some people who might have better technique than me, and some may be fitter than me, but the main thing is tactics. With most players, tactics are missing. You can divide tactics into insight, trust, and daring." - Johan Cruyff
Og, you are almost always bang on and I always enjoy your insight, but it's beyond obvious that Zavaletta has no clue, no skill, no awareness, no speed, no technical ability, no goal scoring, no passing and I can't really think of any other qualities one could have, but I'm sure he doesn't have them either(all relative of course, he would be good in some lower level, but he's not MLS, nor does he show any sign of being able to be). This sounds harsh, I know, but his contract warrants criticism, because he can't play anywhere near its value. You could throw a rock in a crowd and hit a better centre back than him, and cheaper.
Almost useless to predict what incoming moves mean for outgoing ones at this point. Only when we figure out how Vanney wants to play are we going to be able to predict that.

Miazga coming in on loan just overtook Gonzalez for me as most likely use of allocation order.
Nope. It's all 20-20 hindsight.
Zavaleta started 29 games in 2017 and was fourth in minutes played on a championship team (there is a lot of hogwash above about how he was not core, or alternating with Hagglund -none of that is true). Zavs deserved what he got, which is a starting, non-all-star salary, similar to Deleon or Beita.
Once Bez decided to keep him, he had to pay him.
Bez's mistake here, if he made one, is nothing compared to paying vdW and Aketxe a combined $2M in 2018. For some reason, many people understand that you have to swing the bat on internationals, but won’t accept that the exact same risk exists for MLS players.
A lot of teams in MLS have overpaid domestic signings that didn’t work out. It happens. It's part of the game.
This is such. small. beer. on a team with a $26M payroll

Actually not that unrealistic. Miazga started first 8 games for Nantes, coaching change due to poor results, and then he was banished to reserve team. Cancelling the loan is in the contract and possible. 18 months left on Chelsea contract. However, MLS requires any loan deal to have a purchase option - so this may be a road block or maybe an exception is made, or maybe Chelsea is looking to let him go after 18months.
