The top Premiership payroll this year was about $450 million...the lowest was about $50 million. That's with no salary cap. So other than 3 players we are closer to a 3rd tier team in England. MLS has to fix this mess where it's fans sit there worrying about their players making too much money.
When it comes to non DP's, MLS teams tend to have Championship level strikers, League 1 central defenders and mids, League 2 keepers and National League Fullbacks. Remember the ginger haired Ecks was getting 450K as a backup in Div 1.
Beitashour and Morrow are Gold in this league - MLS experienced successful FB's.
The set up didn't suit Jozy in England. He had 2 tries, once at Hull and once at Sunderland and struggled at both. While Sunderland didn't play perhaps fully to his strengths, he could easily have gotten around the 20 goal mark or very close to it with the chances he missed.I recall one open net v West Ham that was harder to miss. He also had bad luck, one goal v Arsenal was called back and he was awarded a free kick instead of ref playing advantage. His problem at Sunderland was Di Canio bought him and was sacked 6 games later. Poyet give him plenty of chances and he didn't take them. His problem was people assumed due to his size he could play as a target man, he can't and we know that. He needs to play with a partner. I watched him a lot at Sunderland, and believe me he had some very good games, but he just never really looked like scoring through terrible finishing and unbelievable constant bad luck. The year he played there Conor Wickam came in last lot of games I think on loan and scored 5 or so goals that were vital. He was a typical big target man and played like one. But make no mistake Altidore could easily have scored what Defoe scored this season on chances missed
Bez please find a way to steal Zlatan from LA. If they are going to do the 200K this year and 10M next year, why the fuck can't we?
Let them have Zlatan. I want Ronaldo in 2 years.
Isn't Ronaldo going to Miami..and Messi probably NYC.
Let's take Rooney.
No thanks to the Fat Englishman.

Back to reality.
Somewhere there is a 20-21 year old who is going to replace Giovinco in the next 5 years. That should be an interesting transition.
We should be scouring South and Central America for players not Europeans in the twilight of their careers. Not saying that veteran European players aren't great assets but we already have that in Perquis and Cheyrou.
Well yes that sort of goes without saying; search for good players nevermind where they're from.
But it is no a secret that many teams in this league acquire solid players from this part of the world, and it is also a place where we haven't have had the best luck in. It is a likely place to find young creative players that wouldn't require too much money. Look at our rivals Montreal and Vancouver, they seem to be just as competitive as us at a fraction of the price.
Laba, Gilberto and Urruti were all players TFC brought into MLS. They have done a good amount of scouting in South America.
Our representation in South / Central America has historically been less than the rest of the league. I think he's making a valid point.
We realistically do not have the resources to search everywhere. Going to Europe consistently is attempting to eat steak on a Kraft Dinner budget.
Best way to keep Giovinco at the club will to be bring another ambitious signing.
BTW did you see how mcc Patti is getting paid - what a bargain!
Yes. Agree. As long as isn't exclusion of any place in the world to spite our own faces so to speak.
Missed this. Yes. much closer to above quote. I would over the moon never hearing of players scoted that actually work out and/or not traded immediately.
