neither is Zavaleta for the most part.
neither is Zavaleta for the most part.
Getting the keeper business we plan to make sorted out soon is just about the last piece of business before camp opens next Friday. Now that Kantari's 345K cap hit is off the books we can then get down to business on signing whomever they have lined up. I would be shocked if Bez/Manning and co don;t already have a guy ready to announce and now they can.
Haglund's vertical leap is higher than anybody else on the team. Teams account for him.
Neither of them know what they are doing, lets move on from both...
Of course they don't know what they are doing. They are still 5+ years away from the prime years for defenders.
We are arguing about back ups and the future. The starters will be Moor and Perquis, unless he engineers an exit, where it will be Moor and somebody else.
Hagglund and Zaveleta are #4 & #5 on the CD depth chart.
The bigger need is a DM and a keeper.
So I take it Williams is staying then? He better be cheap because I'd put him right on the same level as Hagglund and Zavaleta, just older.
Hagglund is turning 26 this year and has 37 pro appearances, says a lot about the North American development system lol.
To be honest thats not the type of player I would investing time and money in even if he is a defender. Its better to have academy players being developed like Henry who started at 17-18, and is 22 right now with already 80+ pro/international games.
In 5 years the standard of defender your going to need will be different, I rather develop much younger players into a system.
I guess since he is domestic and cheap its worth a shot, but he needs to step it up this year.

I honestly think Skylar Thomas is the better option than both those guys.
I can't believe the amount of hate that Hagglund gets here... he was arguably our best defender one season ago and people act like he's not even MLS backup quality because of a season in which he barely even played and was played out of position in several of the few times he actually did. I'm not saying he's the next coming of Ramos or whatever but rewind the clock to prior to last season and Haggs was looking like our future cb1/2. He's exactly the type of player we should be keeping around - young, cheap and proven MLS quality but with leftover potential. That said, unless one of our young cbs (Zavaleta, Hagglund, Simonin, Thomas) burns out somehow we're going to have to make some decisions sooner or later, which I guess is a preferable situation to be in than being without any of them.
My conference north experience is zero but in the past three years I have seen about 10 conference south matches and there are definitely some players who could really help Toronto. There are clubs like Froest Green in the conference national that have the same salary budgets as MLS team.
In 5 years, the league will have moved on from this level of player, and if they are our future, we are in trouble and bound to suffer like we have since inception. I can at least see that Simonen has skill, and knows what to do with the ball and positioning, just needs a longer look if there is an injury this upcoming year.
Agree that a DM is very important for this season, and a good keeper will go a long way.

Probably a good thing, honestly.
Rapids are going after Tim Howard. If they get him TFC should absolutely make a play for Clint Irwin

I worry that he's declined which is why COL want to move him. He didn't show well when he played here last year.
