Holy f*ck
“Years have gone by and I’ve finally learned to accept myself for who I am: a beggar for good football.
I go about the world, hand outstretched, and in the stadiums I plead: ‘A pretty move, for the love of God.’
And when good football happens, I give thanks for the miracle and I don’t give a damn which team or country performs it.”
-Eduardo Galeano
Well I've been a Juve fan my whole life. I've watched Giovinco's entire career.
It's a massive signing for TFC. Although Giovinco hasn't lived up to expectations for Juve, I think he will find his attributes suit him better in the MLS. He will have no problem going past defenders and he will find himself with more time to make decisions which is his biggest weakness.
Also, he's not really an AM at all. Juve has been using him as a second striker for the past few years because he has a very pronounced shoot-first mentality. I don't think he will work behind 2 strikers.
His best position in my mind and many Juve fans is on the wing, preferably LW. He likes to cut inside and he's pretty decent at that. He's good in space. He's good on the counter.
I mean, this is all based on him playing in Europe so who really knows how he would translate to the MLS. He could just be too quick and skilled relative to his peers that he could basically play wherever he wants.
I think ideally he fits into a 4-3-3 on the LW with Jozy in the middle. But if we're keeping Gilberto I guess he'd have to slot in behind them although I really don't like the look of that.
What a signing. Exactly the type of player we should be going after. Moments like these make me glad we're owned by MLSE.
But the roster still needs work. The mock lineups people are posting have Jackson and Oduro starting and they're not going to cut it. A CB is on the way which is much needed but we also need some wingers.
Remember The Man, The Legend, The Goal 5-12-07 and All That #9 Left On The Pitch, Thanks For The Memories !!!
The Giovinco signing is amazing. Altidore is so-so, as others have said for that much money there are more reliable strikers available in the world. I think partly it made sense to MLSE as a swap with Defoe. Secondly you know Altidore won't have the whole culture/MLS shock that other big foreign signings have had.
Another thought though: some have suggested that the 4th DP slot may have some restrictions -- e.g. perhaps has to be a relatively young domestic. Altidore just turned 25, maybe he meets that restriction and that's why they went for him? Also letting us keep Gilberto of course.
Oh and by the way TL said Altidore's salary isn't as high as it has been reported. I guess we will find out in May at the latest...
We're just trolling everyone. From getting their best American players, expanding our stadium to 30K without making the playoffs once in 8 years. It's fucking hilarious.
BTW how screwed is TFC if there's a strike/lockout?
There are not that many young domestics worth giving DP money to.
I still think its going to be either a domestic DP or a young (under 25) DP.
This is why I have been a STH since 07, Tim L Fantasic signing, Been Waiting for Juve Player to come to TFC since day 1 , Very impressed with the FO. Juve is My Euro Club, Giovinco is a Stud. PASTA FC WOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
I hope this makes front page of ESPN tomorrow. The league needs the exposure. Giovincio is the CAM we have been looking for. I'm happy he's being paid less then Kaka so it doesn't look AS bad. I'm so happy we have a guy that can take free kicks and penalties. The italians on my Facebook are loving this - Everyone hop on the bandwagon

This worries me the most. All of those consecutive road games aren't good for any team. Out of a possible 21 pts, I hope we grab at least 15 pts. Even though the team is returning home, winning after a series of losses in the road is going to be difficult. We need to be ruthless on the road and be stingy with our points.
According to this article Giovinco is getting 3 Million in bonuses....
