With expansion to Vancouver and Portland bringing the number of teams in the league to 18 next season, Garber said MLS will consider doing away with conferences and going to the single-table format the top European leagues use. That will not, however, mean an end to playoffs, Garber said.
    Great news!

the de vos article is from oct 20. A good sign that yesterday's conference call didn't really tell us anything new, I didn't realise until he started talking about the arabe unido game, about 2/3rds of the way into the article.

“I'm not saying we would have changed it in any way, but it certainly has forced us to come up with pricing programs and other initiatives TFC went through over the last 30 days to ensure they're not doing things with their fans that will negatively impact their commitment to the club,” said Garber.
Last month, Toronto FC moved to quell fans disgruntled by rising costs and poor performance on the field by giving away a free game and promising a price freeze in 2012 for returning season-ticket holders. Garber had a hand in the decisions, and praised team officials for acting quickly.

“When teams make those decisions, they can't make them unilaterally, they have to be approved by the league because it has a knock-on effect to the rest of our clubs, and we were very supportive of that,” said Garber.
I had said that Garber was an ally at the time... quite a few didn't believe me... the Globe article shows that this was indeed true.

Reserve Leagues would have meant that a player like Lombardo would have developed into a decent soccer player, regardless of position, along with Nunez, Monsalve, Gala, Hemming, Melo, Ibrahim, Julius James, B. Edwards, Cronin, Harmse, Sanyang, and Boyens.

I cant believe you guys shit on Lombardo and O.B.W. so bad, but for the sakes of arguing, who was better Lombardo or O.B.W.?

finding hard working guys is the hard part.

developing them is more easily controlled in hose, but finding a hard worker is scouting and chance.

Lambardo may have sucked the bag, but he worked hard and was young

I'd just want to mention how O'Brian White is going to vastly improve due to time in the reserve league. I think TFC should keep him and see what becomes of him.

are we really comparing obi to cronin or sanyang?
obw has never been in form. i'd like to agree with your theory if you made the adjustment i made above. obi would've had the chance, would he have made anything of it? probably not.

I wouldn't say that about obie. ibbe, gabe gala? definitely the lack of reserve league hurt them, still wouldn't call for them to be kept though.

Speaking of Obie, he's going to make his debut tonight with Jamaica (not really a big surprise) ending speculation of playing with Canada.

    http://www.jamaica-gleaner.com/glean...s/sports4.html

    On MLS website,
It will be interesting to see the reception that Toronto O'Brian White gets from TFC fans after he turned his back on Canada to join the Jamaican national team.
I don't really see him as turning his back on Canada. He was born in Jamaica, but if that's what MLS says, then so be it...

"Rosters are expanding from 24 to 30 starting in 2011, with roster spots 25-30 reserved for players 24 years and under. They will not count against the salary budget."

I would love to have some clarity on this... does this mean we could have kept Edu under this new system with a high salary 1M + and then sold him at age 25 to europe and he wouldn't have counted against our salary Cap!?!

Please tell me this is true.

The extra slots are league min, unless GA...in fact, the new CBA left open the possibility that any roster slots to be added (above the 26 last year) might be only 32k...with Adidas pouring extra money into the reserve league idea, I'm sure the new slots will be league minimum, though.

White has never been with the Canadian setup. I don't see this as a defection.

Unlike that fucking wanker Teal Bunbury or that backstabbing cunt Begovic or that whining loser Lensky, White has been consistent and completely honest with the CSA and the Canadian soccer scene.

He's not Canadian, he's never played for us, he's never wasted our resources.

I wish him all the luck in the world, but he's not good enough to be on TFC so he should be gone for that reason, and that reason alone.
