I believe the Whitecaps will be playing at least one season at Empire Stadium.

^They will only be playing at Empire from the beginning of the MLS season until the summer then move into BC Place. The stadium will not be completely finished until the Fall though but will be open for business for sports, etc.

The club's current name has already been Whitecaps FC for 8 years.

They said in their news release that they will be launching their brand including name, crest, and colours. With the name, all that could mean is the franchise's name right now technically is Vancouver MLS, so anything other than that will obviously be new.
Rumours have said with the crest that it will be something that is completely different from anything else the club has used before.
As for the colours, another rumour says navy blue and white are two of the shades being used.

So I guess the white on top is supposed to represent the mountains, and the blue is supposed to represent the ocean. My buddy who is into skiing and surfing (and happened to move to BC a few years ago) has a tattoo with a very similar idea.

    TFC's is better.

This new shitecaps one is better than the old one, but boring. It's also quite busy with all that text in a very lame font.

    this still kicks ass!

its ok, not terrible as some suggest, nothing to write home about.
Carries the old name/tradition, reflects the geography and the name all in one. Does what a bad is supposed to do.

This is a situation where it's better not to have any history. they were stuck with a team name, "Whitecaps" that has enough history to keep but you can't do much with it.

As much as some people like it, we're lucky we're not stuck with Toronto Blizzard FC and a lame logo.

This 'mountains and ocean' crest does say Vancouver and will be eay to hate .

Howver, unlike the Whitecaps and the Timbers, the Blizzard disappeared long before MLS came knocking.
MLS is a tough, physical league, that emphasizes speed, and features plastic fields, grueling travel, extreme weather, and incompetent refs. - NK Toronto

I sure hope they had focus groups evaluate it for Vancouverites. To this Torontonian, it looks really lame.

Really? Do people here honestly think that it "fucking sucks" or is it just because they hate Vancouver so much? I'm trying to see why the logo is so horrible but I'm sorry to say I'm not seeing it. It is not the best logo in the world but it seems perfectly fine.

I don't see too many people saying it fucking sucks. But when you have a year to plan a massive brand launch for a major league team, you should be striving for more than that.

I think it's boring, lacks inspiration, the fonts could be better. For a USL team or something, it's fine. Better than what they had... but I think it could be a lot better.

I don't think that lettering is going to look very good on a crest, for example. It needed better integration into the mountains. I also think it's too "long" from top to bottom with a lot of space in the top part of the mountain.

But at least it's not like the Columbus Crew logo... bhahahha,.

    I think it's really nice.

Although it's kind of funny that the basic idea of the design is the glassy reflection of mountains on water - very Vancouver, sure, but no "whitecaps" to be seen!
