TFC extends unbeaten streak to six
Dichio scores lone goal and gets under DC's skin with tough play
    May 22, 2008 04:30 AM
    Cathal Kelly

As the last minutes ticked away in Toronto FC's 1-0 victory last night, goal scorer and agitator-in-chief Danny Dichio engaged in some friendly shoving with reedy DC United defender Devon McTavish.
McTavish, the man who gifted Dichio the game's only goal, had apparently had enough of the Toronto forward's pointy elbows and hipchecks. He wheeled on Dichio, screaming and attempting to knock the big man back.

    Toronto FC on a roll

    LARRY MILLSON
    Globe and Mail Update

TORONTO — Those were Danny Dichio conditions last night — wet and chilly, a reminder to him of jolly old England.
And in kind of a scuffling 1-0 victory over D.C. United, Dichio was Toronto FC's man for all seasons, the man who did it at both ends of the pitch.
Dichio, a physical presence all night long as Toronto's target man up front, not only scored what proved to be the winning goal in the seventh minute, he also preserved the three points with a clearance of a rebound in the 64th minute.
He was also in the middle of a bit of melee near the D.C. net late in the game. There was no harm, no foul and no card.

Dichio lifts Toronto FC over D.C. United

It's a classic case of trading places, with one team coming of age and the other losing its way. Danny Dichio scored the lone goal and goalkeeper Greg Sutton recorded his fourth shutout of the season in Toronto's FC's 1-0 victory over D.C. United on a cool Wednesday night before 19,791 fans at BMO Field.
Far from pretty, Toronto's play was, nevertheless, effective.
"I have to be honest and say we won tonight in a scruffy way. We weren't at our best … but that's a good sign because when a team isn't playing well and still wins games, that’s a sign of a good team," Toronto coach John Carver said.

    Toronto FC remain undefeated

    By THE CANADIAN PRESS
TORONTO - Danny Dichio scored the game's lone goal and Toronto FC extended its unbeaten streak to six games with a 1-0 win over D.C. United in Major League Soccer action Wednesday.
Dichio scored in the seventh minute to open the home-and-home series as Toronto (4-2-2) avenged a 4-1 loss to D.C. (2-7-0) in United's home opener on April 5. Since then, Toronto hasn't lost a game.
Dichio, bothered by a groin injury recently, capitalized after D.C. defender Devon McTavish failed to get much of his foot on a poor back pass. With United goalie Zach Wells out of position and sprawled on the ground, Dichio tipped it home while being hauled down by McTavish for his second goal of the year, delighting a crowd of 19,791 on a damp, crisp evening.

Dichio, TFC extend United's losing streak to four
    05/21 10:41:21 ET
Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Toronto FC extended its unbeaten streak to six Major League Soccer fixtures with a 1-0 win over struggling D.C. United on Wednesday evening at BMO Field.
"I feel like I was playing tonight, I'm absolutely shattered," TFC coach John Carver said after the game.
Danny Dichio scored the only goal of the game and Toronto goalkeeper Greg Sutton recorded his fourth shutout of the season to put him in a first place tie with Jon Busch of Chicago and Bouna Coundoul of Colorado.
"I'm delighted for Danny," Carver said. "He's worked ever so hard recently. He got the goal tonight, he deserved it if I can be so honest."

Dichio scores in the seventh minute and TFC holds on to stretch unbeaten streak to six games

    LARRY MILLSON
    May 22, 2008

TORONTO -- Toronto FC ended a five-game homestand with a 1-0 victory over D.C. United last night in wet conditions at BMO Field - and gained some revenge for an early-season drubbing.
It was the third victory (to go with two draws) for Toronto in its lengthy stretch on FieldTurf that began on April 19 with a victory over Real Salt Lake. Announced attendance was 19,791.
Danny Dichio, who was a physical presence up front, took advantage of a defensive lapse to score early for Toronto.
Dichio scored his second goal of the season in the seventh minute after a pathetic display by D.C. defender Devon McTavish, who tried to put the ball back to goalkeeper Zach Wells.

    Dichio extends streak to six
    By Ryan Johnston -- SPORTSNET.CA

    Unbeaten in six.

A year ago such a notion would result in ridicule but after Wednesday's 1-0 win over D.C. United it is Toronto FC who are laughing it up.

"The game in LA set us up nicely for the run of five games at home," Toronto FC coach John Carver said after the match. "I was concerned about having five home games because it is very difficult to keep yourself going for the five. But fair credit to the lads and if someone (would have said TFC would take 11 of a possible 15 points), I would have chopped their hand off and took it right there."

Win over D.C. United makes it seven games without a loss at BMO Field Toronto FC
    By STEVE BUFFERY, SUN MEDIA

BMO Field is fast becoming a wasteland for visiting MLS clubs.
A 1-0 victory over D.C. United last night in front of 19,791 frigid, but spirited supporters extended TFC's unbeaten streak at BMO Field to seven games.
The win also extended the 4-2-2 Reds' unbeaten streak this season to six games. Even more impressive, Toronto has just allowed one goal in its past five. The win also avenged a 4-1 loss to D.C. United on April 5 at RFK Stadium.

We win on Saturday, and we will be 2nd or 3rd. TFC is not crap anymore...

cathal's article was frustrating to read this morning... i know he thinks he's being clever but the whole FC thing is getting old and its making his articles tedious to read. (especially when they're roundly known as the reds now?)

Now compare the table this year, with the table last year at the end of the season:

    DCU 55 points, 16 wins, 7 losses, 7 ties
    TFC 25 points, 6 wins, 17 losses, 7 ties

So, this season DCU have caught up to their total losses of last year, in may, and TFC are well on their way to catch up to their total wins from last year. If we win against DCU and LAG, we will also catch up in May. My how things change.

Toronto is a fickle city. When your team is winning, you are the golden boy and when you're not, you're the bastard child! This doesn't apply to the Leafs however. It's great all-around that TFC is being reported more .... even those bastards @ TSN can't keep on ignoring the MLS forever!

Um...that's when you know you're overweight.

Dichio has a good 3 inches on me but I outweigh him by over 30 lbs.

But at least we both have shaved heads! LOL!
