^^ it's not a U.S. star... it's a "hey, we are the star team!" star.
I thought the star was meant to represent Beckham?
Couldn't they have found someone to name it after that didn't:
-fund and support George W. Bush's administration
-helped fund a Colorado ballot initiative designed to overturn local and state laws that prohibit discrimination against individuals
-helped fund the Discovery Institute, a think tank based in Seattle, Washington that promotes intelligent design and creationism and criticizes evolution
The US Open Cup is named after Lamar Hunt. The old MLS Cup trophy was indeed named after Rothenburg.
Regardless, the playoff tournament and championship game will always be referred to as MLS Cup.
Nice looking trophy though. Looks a lot better than the rip-off Vince Lombardi trophy/sex toy thing they had before.
so where's the map on the new trophy? haha.... not that I'm complaining that I can't see it.
^ sweet!
^ cashzilla! bury it at bmo for good luck!
funny how they named it after an american oil tycoon who is still alive and holds stocks in 4 different american MLS teams....nothing fishy there
http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php...ip_F._AnschutzAnschutz Company, "which has stakes in five U.S. soccer teams, including the MLS's San Jose Earthquakes, Los Angeles Galaxy, Chicago Fire and Colorado Rapids; the NHL's Los Angeles Kings; the NBA's Los Angeles Lakers; the Staples Center and the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles; and the London Arena."

I don't know what sourcewatch is but that info is out of date. He did indeed "save" the league during the "dark" years - which is how he ended up with a bunch of teams, but he has sold off most. I believe he retains the Galaxy and a little less than half of the Dynamo. The article refers to the old Earthquakes who became the Dynamo. The Colorado team is owned by Kroenke - who owns a couple of other Denver teams. The Fire are owned by Andrew Hauptman.
