    Default Dynamo Racism

    http://www.goal.com/en/Articolo.aspx?ContenutoId=910704

The Houston Dynamo have banned a fan from coming to their matches indefinitely following a racially charged insult directed at DC United goalkeeper Louis Crayton following the teams 0-0 tie on Sunday afternoon.

According to a news released from the Dynamo the man has been banned for life.

“Authorities on the scene immediately escorted the individual off the premises,” said the report issued on Sunday. “The Dynamo have identified the fan and banned the person from attending Dynamo games indefinitely. The Dynamo have informed Major League Soccer of the incident and the identity of the individual, and further actions may be taken.

A native of Liberia, Crayton told authorities that the man directed the slur towards him as he was heading to the visiting locker room’s at Robertson Stadium at Houston University.

"It is so sad that he would say that to me," Crayton told the Washington Post. "I am saying hi to the fans and he walked up to me and told me, 'Hey, you're a monkey, go back to the jungle.' I told him, 'Hey, you can't say that to me. I am not a monkey, I am a human being like you.'

"I jumped over to ask him why he insulted me, and he kept going."

The incident comes days after England international Rio Ferdinand hit out at FIFA for failing to take serious enough action against the Croatian Football Federation for the racism displayed towards England striker Emile Heskey.

It was also announced today that England manager Fabio Capello has called for his team’s February friendly fixture in Spain be called off due to the history of racism displayed in the country towards England players four years ago . The match was set for February 11th at the Bernabeu, but has been cancelled at Capello’s request.

As for the problem in Houston, no action has been made by the MLS as of yet, but something may be coming in the new few days.

nice to see there is a team that stands up that, shows you can't wait for the league to take action (which they wouldn't have).

That so-called supporter is definitely a disgrace! Congratulations to Houston for their prompt and decisive action. MLS needs to follow up immediately in just such a strong manner!

Geez, it takes guts for a football club to willingly cut their fan base in half like that.

In a league that is gate-driven, and wants/needs all the fans it can get, it took a lot of guts for Houston to do the right thing... Good for them...

So this is a 2nd racist incident in this season in MLS? I hope we don't have anymore racist incidents....it can really hurt MLS and soccer in general in North America.

Maybe this is our chance to get DeRo - convince him that Houston is racist.

Completley agree good on Houston to get rid of that. We don't need that kind of thing happening here.

In both instances, the guilty party has been a single person ... which is definitely encouraging. In other countries, the racist incidents involves a bunch of people starting racist chants and what not. Compared to the rest of the world, the MLS is MILES ahead (in terms of racial issues).

Columbus should take some notes...the Dynamo people found the culprit quickly, why couldn't the KKKrew?

Good on Houston for coming out and swiftly taking action.

The guy who claimed he was the one who said the slurs called World Soccer Daily today. He was very apologetic and said he was going to contact the league, club and player with written apologies. That in no way is to excuse the guy and he should be banned. But, if it actually was the guy, at least he had the balls to call himself out and take his lumps. Sounds like he got too fucked up and got stupid.

^Good on him for being a stand up guy and doing the right thing, but honestly I don't feel sorry for him. You don't look a black guy in the face and call him a 'monkey' then say, "woops one too many beers, my bad". Stupidity has repercussions...

Yeah I don't think I could have done that: I would have just wanted to crawl into a hole. I mean I'd never place myself in that situation to begin with, but at least, he's owning up to it; if everything he says he intends to do, of course.

Still though, there's no excuse for that kind of behaviour.

Again, Houston shows they have more class than C-Bus. I don't think they ever caught the guy in C-Bus and I don't think he came forward as well. For what it's worth I think there will be more positives coming from this than negatives.

Including BMO on almost any given game day. Some of the shit I've heard is appalling, and I have quite the tolerance when it comes to that kinda shit.

I don't think people do/say things when they're drunk that they wouldn't think about doing/saying when they're sober...I wouldn't drink and drive, and I've certainly never thought about doing it when I was drunk (shit, I tried to play PGR once and that was scary enough), but some people think that sort of stuff is okay and the alcohol only helps convince them
