Is there anything worse than watching a soccer game on a football field?
It's terrible to watch. The yard lines are distracting and it looks completely bush league.
But for Toronto FC fans, there wasn't a better sight than the Reds' 3-1 win Saturday over the New York Red Bulls on the converted football field at the Meadowlands.
In a must-win game, TFC did just that, making a case that it is a player in the playoff race.

Reds coach praises his team

Toronto FC coach John Carver was delighted with his team's character and defensive improvement as they beat New York Red Bulls 3-1 at Giants Stadium on Saturday night. The win keeps the Reds playoff hopes alive with three games left to play. "We showed plenty of character. One or two people have doubted the character and our defending, but I thought we were resolute at the back.

BURNABY, B.C. -- In a Major League Soccer boardroom over the coming months, the Vancouver Whitecaps FC and Montreal Impact might be rival bidders, both seeking expansion franchises in the best league North America has to offer. Yesterday, however, their competition was waged in a United Soccer Leagues First Division semi-final match before 4,992 at Swangard Stadium, and the clubs proved why they'd be better expansion bedfellows than opponents.
The Whitecaps, who ended Montreal's dream season, won 2-0 and advanced to the USL-1 championship final for the second time in three years. The Impact and Vancouver also met in the 2006 semi-finals, which the Whitecaps took en route to winning the league championship.

Swangard Stadium's capacity is only 5288; I agree it should have been full full for a semi final match. This is the why they are building a SSS, or should I say trying to build a SSS.

I watched the last 40 minutes on Fox. The pitch looked terrible, with bare sections down one side of the field. Braz took a shot at the Vancouver keeper, pushing an elbow out and getting it into the ribs of the keeper which started a pushing match. Not the brightest thing to do when your team needs a goal - motivate the opposition.

NEWCASTLE, England (AFP) - The Nigerian consortium bidding to buy Newcastle has warned the Premier League crisis-club that they are ready to look elsewhere if a deal isn't completed soon.

The African businessmen are believed to have tabled a 200 million pounds offer after Newcastle owner Mike Ashley signalled his intention to sell up.
But the group are unhappy with the response from Newcastle so far and Chris Nathaniel, of NVA Management, who is the consortium's front man, insisted they were ready to pull out if negotiations don't go smoothly.
"We're talking to possible manager and key personnel for the club," Nathaniel told The Sun. "Once that is sorted, we'll fine-tune our offer.
