    Carver goes back to basics
Reds coach not giving up on playoffs

Toronto FC coach John Carver will make changes to the team for Saturday's clash with Houston Dynamo at BMO Field (kick off 3:30 p.m. live on CBC). Carver admits he has "gone back to basics" in training this week with the players following Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Kansas City. "There will be changes on Saturday," said Carver. "I have noticed that when I go with Amado Guevara as one of the two players in central midfield, we seem to be very open, and I need to change that."

Toronto FC players visited Sick Kids Hospital on Tuesday afternoon. The team toured different departments of the hospital talking with kids, taking photos, signing autographs and giving gifts. "It's really important for us to come here and do things like this in the community," said Reds striker Danny Dichio.

    By DEAN MCNULTY, SUN MEDIA

Toronto FC's John Carver will be in the coach's box after all Saturday at BMO Field in a Major League Soccer match against Houston Dynamo.
Carver was ejected from TFC's most recent game, against the Kansas City Wizards, and that normally comes with an automatic one-game suspension.

    Sutton expects Reds to improve
Goalkeeper encouraging strong effort in key clash with Dynamo

Toronto FC goalkeeper Greg Sutton expects a big improvement from the team for Saturday's home game against Houston Dynamo (kick off 3:30 p.m. live on CBC). The Reds remain six points off the playoffs after last week's 2-0 defeat at Kansas City Wizards. "We just came out flat against Kansas and that shouldn't be the case right now," said Sutton.

    G'mornin D...

OK, not to grab at straws for something positive, but the fact the league took away an automatic one-game suspension form Carver means they looked into the incident and realize that Toledo is a douchebag...

Maybe this plug of an official will be looked at closely by MLS and fired one day... His performance on the pitch every game I have seen him is terrible - and that's bad because alot of MLS officials aren't great...

The down side, I guess no Carver in 112 on Saturday...

    Carts...

So Carver doesn't like a two men in the centre of midfield with Guevara on the pitch...hmm. I wonder if this means Carver is going to go with a 4-5-1?

If that is the case, does he play Rosenlund or Freeman with Robbo in front of the Defenders? Freeman is listed as defender/midfielder but that may indicate a fullback/winger type player like Brennan or Dunivant.

Toledo was awful in that game.. and not just against TFC.
Me and my dad were laughin at the yellows he was giving KC. Those situations were not really deserving of yellows. You could almost feel sorry for KC

"Our away form is such a huge difference from our home form. It's not just the way we play, but the attitude and application of the players. At home players can't hide because there are 20,000 fans are watching them, maybe it's different on the road when we have a handful of our supporters watching. It has to be a psychological thing."

so they cant do their jobs if they are not in front of the BMO faithful?

Its nice to get a mention, that people actually went all the way down there. . .

    are our players spoiled?

Spoiled, or simply motivated by the home crowd? If you are used to playing in front of a madhouse, and then go to some of these places where you can shoot a cannon into the stadium and nobody notices (you could hear our people on TV chanting at times during the KC game) its gotta be hard. But others are used to it, and that may be a part of what makes BMO intimidating, especially to north american players who haven't experienced anything like it (presuming that foreign players have).

I'm now wondering whether the players have become complacent with our fans, or if they are disappointed with us. My reason for saying this is that our biggest supporter these days seems to be John Carver - he's made more reference to the fans lately than any of the players. Jim Brennan's comment in the corner about people are supposed to drink their beer, not throw it (or whatever the exact quote was) and the almost cursory acknowlegdement by the players after games.

    It's probably nothing but ......

Slightly off topic but, has anyone noticed that after a goal the players will not run towards the south end to celebrate? I would really like to know why not? I get the impression that they've been told not to.

If they have been told not to it's hopefully to do with not overinflating egos in basement dwelling side. I doubt they would ignore the support they constantly praise.

also, Carver has to realize that most MLS teams suck on the road, for whatever reason.
one shouldn't take solace in that fact...
Heck, we have more road wins than three other teams that are ahead of us in the standings: NY, KC, and RSL.
Even the mighty Houston Dynamo has the same # of road wins as we do.
I count only 3 of 14 teams as having winning road records.
So most teams have some home advantage, often a very great one. It's not just a BMO intimidation thing.

It'd be nice to know why this happens to so many teams, but TFC is not unusual in this regard.

Who cares about the other fucking teams... This club made more than enough changes for its fans to expect tangible results. This hasn't happened. I for one don't like to use the mediocrity of others as a measuring stick for my success. When all is said and done the only thing that truly matters is points, and TFC has the fewest in the league. Who cares if the Dynamo have the same # of road wins as we do. How many points are they ahead of us in the standings? Wasn't our last win (and only win in the past 11 games) a road win? Can you compare our home record to these same teams please?

He's discussing our away form because that was the topic of conversation...
MLS is a tough, physical league, that emphasizes speed, and features plastic fields, grueling travel, extreme weather, and incompetent refs. - NK Toronto
