TFC still has life

Toronto FC came close to stealing three points from Major League Soccer's best team, but in the end had to settle for a 1-1 draw against the Columbus Crew at BMO Field yesterday.
The point TFC earned, however, keeps the team in the hunt for a playoff berth with six matches left to play in the regular season.
Going forward, TFC trails Real Salt Lake by five points for the final wild-card spot.
Coach John Carver came away from the game in good spirits saying that his team has lost only once at full strength to the Crew in three games, a feat no other MLS team has accomplished this season.
"We've now laid down a benchmark," Carver said. "I think that has told me that when I can get everybody together we can actually achieve something this season."

Toronto FC had its full roster back on the field Saturday, but still couldn't find that elusive win.
A week after Toronto played without nine of its starters, missing due to international games, Carl Robinson scored for Toronto FC in a 1-1 draw with the Columbus Crew. The tie stretched Toronto's winless streak to five games, further hurting the team's ever-dwindling hopes of its first appearance in the Major League Soccer playoffs.
Pat Noonan scored for the Crew (13-6-5), who boasts the best record in the MLS.

After a week that included World Cup qualifiers in Wales and Russia, a depressing change of weather in Moscow and a nightmare journey back to Toronto, TFC midfielder Carl Robinson was so exhausted he nodded off in the locker room just minutes after yesterday's game against the Columbus Crew.
Never mind that Robinson had just played 86 adrenaline-filled minutes, and scored the opening goal in TFC's 1-1 tie with the league's top team. Robinson's internal clock said it was bed time, and strength coach Paul Winsper had to wake him up for the mandatory post-game gym session.

Toronto FC still can't solve Columbus

The Columbus Crew continue to be the bane of Toronto FC's existence.
Toronto battled to a hard-fought 1-1 tie against visiting Columbus on a rainy Saturday afternoon at BMO Field, a result that does little to help the Canadian club's playoff chances.
Toronto has never defeated Columbus in six meetings between the teams since the Canadian club joined Major League Soccer in 2007.

Reds draw Crew, lose Trillium Cup
Toronto FC see chance for three points wash away

TORONTO -- The Columbus Crew won the first-ever Trillium Cup after a 1-1 draw with Toronto FC on Saturday at BMO Field. The draw improved Columbus' record against Toronto to 1-0-2 on the season, thus clinching the Cup, awarded to the winner of the season series between the two clubs. The Crew also improved their all-time record against Toronto to 3-0-3; and the point ensured that they would leave the weekend still in possession of the top spot in the MLS table.
As for Toronto, the Reds needed the two extra points in their desperate search for the final playoff spot. TFC has now won just two of their last 15 MLS and Canadian Championship games.
