Vancouver Whitecaps defender Diaz Kambere has joined Toronto FC on a one-match loan deal. Kambere, 22, will be available to play in Toronto FC's home game versus Chivas USA at BMO Field on Saturday. Kambere will return to Vancouver following the match and will be available for the Whitecaps USL First Division game versus Minnesota Thunder at Swangard Stadium on Sunday evening.
Kambere is currently in his third season with the Whitecaps and has made nine appearances, including eight starts, in the 2008 USL-1 campaign. The defender also made four substitute appearances in the Nutrilite Canadian Championship, including two second-half appearances as a substitute against the Reds. Last March, Kambere was called up to Canada's U-23 Olympic men's team for the CONCACAF Olympic qualifying tournament in the United States. The defender made three appearances in the tournament, including the third-place match in Nashville, where Canada defeated Guatemala 5-3.

So we have four at the back for this?

Personally I would have the scout go back to scouting and bring Harmse to the back line along with the rest.

Although it is outrageous that this needs to be done. It should be noted that he did impress in the U-23 tournament, so the guys not bad. If he impresses it wouldn't surprise me to see him in a TFC jersey full time next year.

This guy is the Canadian version of Marvell Wynne, except a left back.
actually I am dead serious, that is probably a dead on comparison.

QUICK as hell, little ball control and overall skill. Just like our Wynne.

So it is my understanding from previous research that any incoming MLS loan agreement has to include a buy out option for it to be valid ... wonder what the price is????????

While a bit odd, if he's good enough to play, who cares. I don't remember him from the U-23's (then again I only remember Ricketts, Johnson and Lombardo) but here's his chance to move up.
Besides everyone b*tches about not enough Canadians playing, well it's pretty much an All-Canadian lineup it seems!

While it is beyond insane that we need to do this, I am glad that Mo found a way to bring in someone. And it is cool of Vancouver to help out.

Plus, I like the fact that a young Canadian can gain some experience at an alleged higher level in the sport.

True. Although I wouldn't be surprised if there was a gentleman's agreement that TFC won't make an offer or something. That or a 5 million buyout just for formality's sake.

If the league wouldn't approve a $200,000 transfer from USL, what do you tink the chances are that they'd approve a loan contract with a $5 million buyout?

If it was just a protective formality? Who knows.

Wow, now we've resorted to blaming other teams for our misfortunes and inability to win!!!

I remember him pretty well from the U-23. He is fast, but his passing is lacking and it was really noticeable. Anytime he felt the slightest pressure he would boot it up the wing to no one. He got better as the tournament went on but I think he was replaced eventually. You can liken his passing abilities to Julius James.

You got to be kidding Rocker. Give it up. We did not win and it is a good lesson for TFC. Vancouver did not fold against the Impact.

Agreed! It's more like TFC rolled over against Vancouver especially in that first game...

If Vancouver had won a single game over the Impact, they would be in the tournament, not TFC. Maybe you meant, if they had played just a little bit better and tied one game, so we'd all have five points and could Roshambo for first place.

With all the headaches and bad press they've been getting over this situation I'm sure the league would overlook a buyout clause on a 1 game loan.

Toronto FC's defensive reinforcements Diaz Kambere and Tim Regan trained with the team on Friday ahead of Saturday's clash with Chivas USA at BMO Field. With eight players away on international duty, Kambere and Regan are both expected to play.
Kambere is on a one match loan from USL team Vancouver Whitecaps. "It was a shock to get the phone call a couple of days ago," said Kambere. "It was a big surprise when I heard that they wanted me to come here, but I am very happy to be here for this game because it will be a great experience for me."
The 22-year-old played at BMO Field earlier this season when he came on as a second-half substitute for the Whitecaps in the Nutrilite Canadian Championship. "The atmosphere was great that day and I was so hyped to play here. I really enjoyed playing in that game and it was a very special experience."
Kambere is excited by the possibility of making his MLS debut. "Alongside playing for the Canadian Olympic team, this will be another highlight in my career so far," he said. "I've got lots of people back home cheering me on because it will be my first MLS game. I know Kevin Harmse and Tyler Rosenlund and a bunch of the other guys. They're all good guys and it was good to be out there with them this morning. I'm really looking forward to the game."
Tim Regan has MLS experience with New York and Chivas USA. The 27-year-old trained with the Chicago Fire during the preseason and is currently a scout for Toronto FC.
"It is a challenge I am looking forward to because it's high quality play between two teams in the hunt for the playoffs. I've done enough work to keep myself fit and I'll be strong enough to get through 90 minutes. It was important to get out there this morning and get to train with the lads and make sure we're all on the same page. It will be interesting to see how the squad responds, because if everybody performs well, there is no reason why they can't keep doing it down the stretch." Former Colorado Rapids and Toronto Lynx defender Rick Titus is also being added to the Toronto roster for Saturday's match.

The bottom line here is that it is good to see TFC doing what they can to at least ensure we have subs for the game. And good on Vancouver for agreeing to help us out. They could have been pricks and said no.

By the way, Titus is 39 and plays for the Lynx. He did play in 2002 with Colorado and here is a precis of his season

    Colorado Rapids
Rick's superb man-marking skills caught the eye of Major League Soccer scouts and he signed with the Colorado Rapids as a Discovery Player for the 2002 season. He earned a spot in defense and started all 25 games in which he played. At the end of the season he was awarded the ADT Defensive Player of the Year award, an award voted on by local media, and given to the player deemed to be the best defensive player during the Major League Soccer regular season.
