Default I think its Pauleta Time....

Mo if you are reading this board make the call.

Pauleta played his last game today for PSG and it is rumoured by RTP that he is looking to play another year or two.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pauleta
I had read afew weeks ago that Sporting or Benfica would be looking to pick him up.

He is 35 and would have to come over as a DP. the guy leads the portugese national team in all time goals.

with the calibur of play here in the mls this guy could play 2-3 years easy.

Unlike alot of names that have been rumoured to be coming over like Huckeby, Pauleta would be coming over healthy.

I know alot of people are going to say he would not be a good fit. to that i say.....
    YOU ARE CRAZY.

Come on MO. Bring over a fellow Azorean Baby!!!

Could be interesting, what does everyone think, is he worth a one or two year run, would he be the goal scorer TFC needs, express your thoughts, looking forward to them.

He would be the scorer we are missing.

    thats 100% forsure.

U trade Cunningham and use a rotation of Dichio and Pauleta

He is still in great shape

I was never a huge fan of his but i think this would be the perfect fit.

When i was at the game today my dad callled me and said for me to talk to Mo and tell him to go and get Pauletta.

I really am starting to think this team is a GOOD Striker away from being a TOP team in the MLS.

Our Midfield has made our Defence 100 times better.

    Loving robert.

We could do a lot worse than Pauleta, but if he’s still being linked with Portugal’s big clubs, I’m not sure he’d come to the MLS even as a DP.

The best and most realistic DP suggestion to date.
If people here get a hard on for crap like Huckerby then this guy is an orgasm waiting to happen.

Definetely would be a great pickup.

I've watched him play over the years and yes he still has it, especially to play in the MLS.

Listen i'm not a Portuguese supporter especially with the rivalry with the Italians, but I will not let my bias come in the way of getting a quality striker. He would be a good fit for TFC.

Way better than the other names thrown out there (Huckerby etc) and definetly 500% upgrade on both Dichio and Cunningham. It would make TFC a complete team and perhaps the most feared team in the league. He is thae player that can bring us over the top.

A player with his calibre would have put in 3 goals vs. Columbus. Our strikers are killing us.

Do it MO pick up the phone. Long distance calls aren't expensive these days, just get a Rogers plan.

So if Landycakes played for TFC, scored lots of goals but was still a diver and complained all the time, you'd be happy?

^ I sure as hell would. I don't find Donovan to be a blatent diver as much as just a plain sissy. Which bothers me, but oh well, I like to win.

One thing I think that often gets lost in the diving debates here is that these guys often get mugged consistantly with brutal physical play. He gets hacked at a lot, the diving is his way of pushing back.

Honestly as much as people hate it, I put it on the same level as thuggery like hacking skilled players. No room in the game for either IMO.

    Ahh his famous celebration...Azorean pride

I was thinking the exact same thing during yesterday's game and mentioned it to my buddy. We really lack a quality striker. Pauleta thrives in this sort of formation so he would most definitely fit in, much more than Huckerby. Not Brittish though.

Exactly. I don't get the hype of Huckerby. I will take footballer like Pauleta (if he wants to play for Toronto) in a heartbeat. He's a good DP signing, unlike Huckerby.

If so, then sign him up ASAP. I can't take these draws anymore. We need to win games now since the east is so tough.

I would take Pauleta in a instant as our DP, just a slong as it is a 1-year contract because he is getting old, and we're bound to find a better quality DP striker in the near future.

Pauleta was an incredibly talented player, whether he still it, I'm not certain. If he can regain or maintain his previous form, he will be incredible in MLS. Some of the goals he scores are simple unbelievable. I don't think he's coming though, he doesn't seem like the kind of player to go where the money is. I only see him coninuing his football in Portugal.

Only problem IMO is the turf. How long will a 35 year old last on it? One year?!

We don't need him to last for more than a year, Laurignano. Next year, we sign someone else.

Pauleta would be a great fit here.

One year is all we need from him, why not use our DP and get a striker who can produce some goals for us.

I think we could use Pauleta for 2 years.

As for the turf. i would not worry about it. He has been very healthy almost all of his carear.

Good to see the postive reponses.

Now if only mo would listen to us

35? You know, i've been pretty happy with the players this club has picked up, but can we please look to the long term instead of all these short term solutions. In 2 years we are going to be fucked because half our good players will end up retiring....

Hey Nomad i am very sorry.

Maybe we should see if Drogba or perhaps C ronaldo wants to come play in toronto. Would that be better for you?

We would be very very lucky to get a player like Pauleta to come and join TFC.

Dont forget we also have Lombardo for the future.

In the MLS you dont plan for tommorow. YOU PLAY TO WIN TODAY.

AND TFC has to do that.

Pauleta could be a realistic target and if we are looking at a striker with a guaranteed 8 to 15 goals a season then it's him.

Here is his career in france:

    Time -----Team ----MP ---Min --G
    2002 -----Bordeaux 37 --3297 --23
    2003 -----Paris SG 37 --3136 --17
    2004 -----Paris SG 35 --2712 --14
    2005 -----Paris SG 36 --3048 --21
    2006 -----Paris SG 33 --2596 --15
    2007 -----Paris SG 27 --1739 --08

A great in-box striker and Portugal's all time leading scorer. That doesn't say too much but he did manage to surpass Eusebio. He really does have a fantastic scoring record. A major criticism that Portuguese have of him is that he struggled to show up against big teams, which is alright considering no MLS team can be considered 'big'. With Portugal, he played as a lone striker (not sure about PSG) so its not like he'd need much time to get used to the system.

As for the turf issue, if a mid 30's guy cant play 2 years on it, then no one would want to play on it, period. I don't think that would stop him from coming. He might prefer Portugal but if not there, then where else better than Toronto?

    I haven't really followed him.

If he has still has something to offer and can finish in the box...give him a look!

I am sure the Portuguese fans would love it.

I think this would be a great signing. Also the dimension of shifting a few TFC shirts in the Portuguese-Canadian community is something worth looking into.

Players like Guevara and Robert would thrive with him up front.
