Longstaff is more an all-action, two-way English mid, which means he's not likely slide-rule any passes to the players upfront. He can ping passes and he can tackle guys, and he can hold up the ball.

He's probably seen mostly as an eight or a six, but I doubt he'd be used as the false nine. Maybe. Early days.

Rosted is Long's natural backup as he's okay in the air and we need the central guy to win aerial balls. Not sure he'd rate Mabika highly enough to displace him.

Mabika had a few bad games last season, the same could be said for everyone else.

IIRC, Mabika cleared 3 balls off the goal line. He has great potential, especially with his height advantage.

Definitely deserves minutes, and would have no problem seeing him start.

Longstaff had a beauty of a line breaking pass toward (or into?) the box vs Charlotte. We haven’t seen any of those in quite a while. He’s got the touch and the ‘vision’ it seems. Not sure I’d use him as a false 9 though, or not yet anyway.

Good lord. How is everyone injured? Literally 7/11 of the starting team injured.

The goal is to get out of here without taking a beating. I just don't want us to lose momentum, if we can have forgotten about this game two weeks from now that's a win. That's a brutal injury list for anyone but especially a paper thin squad. Hopefully there's some Italian miracles for us

Thats my fear. That type of injury list really has the potential to derail any momentum. I hope Long and Flores can play.

Is there a silver lining here in that if there was ever an easy field to park-the-bus and force the other team to beat you, this monstrosity in the outfield is it?

They should hire an outside consulting firm to through our history of injuries. It is truly awe inspiring.

That's one of those lists that just makes you look at the next few weeks as a right off.

Side note, I suppose this means Kerr is back? That’s a positive at least

Park the bus, then Insigne curls one in the 88th minute from Right Field in Yankee Stadium

The Reds are getting into the territory of needing a TFC short term signing or two.

Pretty much. NYCFC have only scored one goal so far so we might be able to pull it off.

Is if because our indoor training field is turf and outdoor grass?

Like it seriously needs to be looked at. How can we rack up this amount of injuries 4 games into a season?

I think what you are describing is probably one of the first things they’ve looked at. I wonder if it has something to do with North-South travel and playing in one climate but training in another. Would be interesting to see if other Northern teams struggle with injuries more early in the season compared to their southern counterparts.

Herdman pointed out training on turf after returning from the southern U.S. preseason is a physical strain on the players. Then it’s training on turf in a warm bubble before one day in the cold on grass at home and then a single cold weather match.

But one would think the regional-heavy season this year would have helped us. Ohio and New York are not very much different than here this time of the year. I was in Boston for most of this week and the weather was about the same as here. More Toronto flowers are out but their trees have slightly bigger buds… again suggests not much difference.

If we can atleast have Long and Flores play today, I will feel much better about a result. The drop off from Long to Rosted is massive.

I agree……. But if there is any two players that I don’t want to aggravate an injury into something worse its those two.

Early days. Better to work hard, try and grind something out. Losing a game at this point of the season means nothing, let's be honest, as long as it's not lost badly.

Yeah, we definitely need them. Otherwise it could be a long night and our defense might get roasted

Yeah, it’s the spirit and effort that count most at the moment. And Yankee field is so weird anything can happen. At least I’m expecting Herdman to come up with a possibly workable approach to the field with who we have available.

If even 2 of 3 questionable players are available tonight (it's possible, we shall see), a convincing win is on the menu.
