Dichio back on the pitch with TFC

TORONTO — Danny Dichio, who has been out with a concussion, trained Thursday with Toronto FC at BMO Field and will accompany the team for its Major League Soccer away game against the Colorado Rapids on Saturday. How much he will be able to participate in the game, if at all, is still a question but it was an encouraging development for TFC.

Just the fact he can take the plane trip (altitude causes problems for concussions) is a HUGE POSITIVE STEP...!!!

    Great News...!!!!

The only thing he wasn't doing on Tuesday was heading the ball. Hopefully the doctors have given him an all clear.

I doubt all clear, but he may be at 80% or better. If he's not heading the ball yet, he's definitely not all clear.

Why do i get the feeling we're rushing him back just because we cant score???

Seriously... how pissed will we all be if this potentially "season-ending" injury turns into a career ending injury (and we only have him back for part of a game)

Take it slow MO, Carver and Dichio.... if we rush him back too soon to ill effect, I will be really pissed.

At the same time, if he's clear... This is awesome.
Glad to see him getting better.

Agreed. I know we are suffering, but I dont want the dude risking his health.

But this definitely brought a smile to my face...something that has been missing when talking about TFC for some weeks.

You can't fly with a concussion.

This certainly means that he's been cleared by the doctors, but may not be match fit, and is probably being cautious.

Even if he's not playing, and just filling one of those empty seats onthe (shortened) bench, I'd rather have Dichio on the sideline than not. How'd you like to come back to the bench to him if you haven't given it your all?

They remember what happened to Sutton. So I'm sure he's good to go, just being cautious.

Correct, but it still doesn't mean he's at 100% either. It just means he's far enough past it he's not feeling the major ill effects anymore.

After any concussion, even if you're fit to fly, you get re-concussed so easily.
He should not head the ball for a while and seriously get a helmet.

sorry roogsy, while you're thread link works, I still don't see it listed as a thread on the mainboard. computer glitch? (if you're simply refering to a post in the daily news thread, I don't thing that alone is sufficient. this news, DD's return, deserves it's own special thread).

When you have had repeated concussions, which apparently he has...it is always a possibility, especially the longer it takes to recover, the more likely it is they won't risk it again.

I think roogs was meaning that the thread in the News Section was appropriate for this news. But as you say, many people only visit the Toronto FC or "main" section.

I edited my post and put the linky in.

I can't merge this thread with the other one...so let's try to stick to one. It is in the news thread but it isn't the daily news, its specific to Dichio's return.

I can't see our experienced conditioning staff led by Mr Winsper and/or Double "D" making the wrong call here. They all know about what a concussion at Danny's age can mean and no way the Big D comes back when he knows hes not ready (unless its for " VIRTUALLY THE LAST KICK OF THE SEASON").
But seriously, hes not going to be coming back prematurely.
