Belgrade or home - his choice for him & his family likely easy to be honest

Not sure he will be the same value in 2026 but then he'll be committed to making the CMNT so that might help

    ****

I recall Berna loved him in the Bradley system - the connections when Bradley allowed Richie to go deep were great - the problem was...the Bradley system which told players not to go to the line.

As a true RWB - he's a threat that needs to be adjusted to and we havnt' had that apart from Richie since Poz left.

He would have Laryea on his side so that will help a bit.

I've watched him in Ottawa over the last two years and he improved over that time. I think having a veteran former 2nd Liga CB pairing with him helped. He made some questionable plays at the beginning of last season, but then improved until the team's wheels fell off and they went on a 0-6 run to drop out of the playoffs. ATO players did a fair bit of soul-searching during that time, so I think Singh came out with stronger character from it. I'd give him a shot with TFC, but if you don't want him, I'm sure ATO would take him back.

    Molinaro covered it.

EDIT: ... but it just says some invited supporters' club members attended. There's a slightly blurry pic you might be bale to pick some folks out of.

I love the video in TFC instagram of Bernadeschis reaction to Richie. Berna even gave him back his old dressing room spot.

I'm increasingly getting the impression this wasn't a fractured dressing room, it was the Bradleys and possibly MAK being disliked by everyone else.

I mean, I don't think I've ever seen Bernardeschi look that happy before.

I always got the impression that Michael wasn't really liked by his teammates, even in our glory years. Respected for his ability and pedigree though.

Remember the downturn in 2021? We were running the east with Oso and Mark Delgado as twin pivots. He returned from injury and the entire vibe changed markedly overnight.

I don't think there was anything particularly mean-spirited about the guy, I think he was just intense, absolutely sure of himself and probably, based on some of the US nat team stories, very difficult to deal with.

The quote he had in the Athletic story sounded like a soundbite from a disgraced politician, something along the lines of "everything I've done, I've done to try and make the club better."

I’m really hoping so. Bernie as a winger rarely allowed Richie to do his (now very necessary) thing on the right in the final 1/3.

He looked a hell of a lot better in that role in the last match under Herdman than he did at LB all season.

It seems Richie has always been a good and accommodating teammate and he is the best RWB in the league when he’s on.

He’s also become very good defensively… he was our best centre back last year after Hedges left. He should routinely offer assistance/assurance to our back three but I want him too to be taking on people deep in the opposition’s end. I very much want to see Herdman’s prior version of Richie.

Toronto FC sign French Defender Nicksoen Gomis
    From Sheffield United’s site:

“Nicksoen Gomis is a centre-back who likes to attack.

A real ability to get forward and contribute both goals and assists, Gomis impressed at both Under 18s and Under 21s level in the United back three and headed out on loan last year to gain first team experience with Belgian side General Beerschot after a youth loan to Bradford Park Avenue the season previous.”

The "welcome home" thing for Richie had me teared up

I know we are only going to go as far as our defence keeps them out & our CF puts them in and I still think we finish mid 30's in points.

    &

    still

Nice to see Richie come home

So a guy with 7 appearances in the English 6th tier and 1 appearance in the Belgian 2nd tier.
That's a signing were supposed to get excited about? Hope I'm wrong, but that's a signing I expect for a CanPL team not an MLS team.

I wouldn't even be happy as a york fan if they signed this guy. He seems more suitable to TFC2.

He's 21. Suspect possible may play with TFC2 and be groomed.

One would think so. Unless someone at the club knows him well, it sounds a bit like a ‘deep dive’ statistics based’ signing with hopes for the future.

With the exception of Richie and Flores (the later being a Herdman signing) our signings seem to come somewhat out of left field.

We also technically signed two players from Prem teams today. Feeder league, in my opinion.

I remember the Older Guys + Doniel CB squad seasons

In the absence of academy CB projects, I'll take young international CB projects.

Yes, we need a centre forward.

Yes, our current midfield group is slow.

But Slots 21+ gotta be filled with something worth working on.

Some deets on Gomis from 2021 Athletic piece on Sheffield United youth:

And John Molinaro's story. He trialled in pre-season.

    Herdman talks

    https://www.torontofc.ca/video/lates...bruary-23-2024

    Of note

    • Spicer needing minutes before with main team so with TFCII this weekend
    • Insigne on a recovery plan all season
      • didn't play full games at Napoli & only 80% of total - benches not the same but going to not play every game
      • didn't adjust well to turf training & will unlikely play away turf games
      • focus on home game

    • Richie able to play but may not do much if fitness doesn't hit standards needed to suceed
    • "If we lose to Cinci, we want to lose the right way"
    • SJ quote - "We have to prove ourselves right first before we prove anybody else wrong"

    Worth people's time.
