We can. Going rate is about $200k GAM per slot. Depends on how badly mismanaged our salary is though, to see how much GAM we have available to trade.

If a player is on a season-ending injury, it also frees up a slot as well. So if Diomande is out for the year, it'd open a slot as well.

At that cost and given the unknown financial circumstances, agree; very CAP tricky. IIUC, TFC may have at least a total (of new) GAM so far this season of 100K?

Well, we might be stuck with Fede.

Jordan Henderson has apparently said he'll take a pay cut to $1.5M a year to go on loan to Juve. Given that he can play both on the right and centrally, I doubt they'll shell millions for TWO loan players.

So unless they're willing to just eat his money to clear the room, he's probably not going there.

Read that. You may be right. Still, IDK. JHenderson’s transfer fee to LFC was circa USD15M and his Al-Ettifaq salary is circa USD30M. That’s some desperation to get out of the KSA; a lot of money to walk away from. Also, if he is really available, then the Saudi’s should be able to get a better loan deal than what moneyless Juve has offered. Perhaps this info was even leaked to pressure Fede’s ask or any TFC hesitation. Still, gives hope for the club that our duo may be willing to do the same and accept a haircut to move on.

Both Insigne and Berna are back in Toronto at this point, poating about it on Insta. I imagine they must be heading down to Florida or California for preseason soon.

Really curious to see where Herdmann is going to play them. Needs to be a different position then last year.

Does anyone recognize the name Celio Da Silva? And what relationship this individual may have to TFC?

As expected, no Ronael Pierre-Gabriel in the Nantes team for their match today. Gotta think he is TFC bound in the coming days.

Interesting. Sounds like a CB for us. I think we need one or two experienced and effective wing backs. Although not sure if any RWB will find true “joy” with Bernie also playing that side. Maybe this guy will play defensively beneath Bernie.

Seems the big question now: how will Herdman use both Italians so that they can be truly effective. Without that we're likely to be mediocre at best.

Watching him last year it seemed he was getting close to ready. I think he should have a legit chance on making the team.

Based on our two acquisitions so far (Spicer, flores) it looks like we're finally trying to add some speed and dynamism to our team.

We must have had the slowest team in the league last year.

Who starts up front for us?

    We have:
Insigne, Berna, Owusu, Cash, Kerr, Diomande, Akinola, Spicer

As of right now, if they are still here the front 3 will have Insigne and Bernie. The striker is probably Prince, but Kerr could start. Spicer and Cash as the subs to attack tired defenses when we are behind (which will probably be most games) could work well.

You sit berna until he finds a new team and play a 5-3-2 with insigne as 2nd striker. Berna does not work in any system that isn't a 4-3-3, or 4-2-3-1 I don't think we have the personel for either system. We still need CB's either way. The striker for now will likely be Prince or Kerr, whoever is training better, on better form.

Personally I don't think berna plays, because he has demonstrated he isn't playing at a good enough level. He is a crappy teammate to boot. I would be saving my buyout for him. Of all of our boat anchors I think he is the heaviest. If we can't find a team to give him to it is such a waste to just sit him. That DP spot could be used on any number of effective players.

His best years, prior to Juve, were at Fiorentina. He scored a ton of goals from the left side and as a second striker.

But he hasn't played either role since.

His belligerence and issues make having him as a two-way player a very poor option. To get anything out of him, I think we have to play him in a front two.

He's always dangerous around the net, can beat a single marker -- which he's much more likely to see as a striker than wide -- and doesn't really want to pass the ball. That all says "striker" to me.

And given the uncertainty of our forward options -- we have no idea yet if Owusu or Maillula are going to make the grade, although I suspect both will eventually have a role -- putting him up front just makes sense.

Herdman likes the flexibility of the 5-2-3/3-4-3 and variants, so maybe something like

    ----------Owusu----------Fede-------
    (Mailula) (Kerr)

    -----------------Insigne----------------
    (Mailula)

    Spicer-----Osorio----Flores-----Blessing
    (JMR) (Coello) (Servania) (Kerr)
    (Thompson)

    -----Petretta?----Rosted-------CB?
    (Mabika) (Stefanovic) Franklin

    -----------------Johnson-----------------
    (Gavran)

We need wide speed, a central defensive anchor still to have chance at a winning season. Even then, we need the Italians and at least one striker to come good.

Lots of talent there if they can be made to play together, but not a lot of speed or strength. Technique heavy, athletically deficient.

I don't think that team makes the playoffs, even with Herdman. Just not dynamic enough. Maybe the Italians will surprise but they seem disgruntled, which usually results in the opposite.

I don't think a single player in our starting lineup, other than maybe Insigne and Johnson, would start on a top MLS club.

That was the exact front 3 I was thinking.
Berna in a front 2 with Insigne in a free roaming role behind them.

Bernas attitude isn't always great but he probably has the best shot on the whole team. And he wants to score. Sit him up there and let him do it.

Makes sense to me as well. Why he’d want to, more often than not, keep getting no where on the right would be a mystery, especially playing for a manager who doesn’t play with wingers.

Yeah, in retrospect (okay, the shortsighted retrospect of a few days) why would Juve settle for our Bernie at this stage of his career? It would have had to be immediate (and probably temporary) need to fill a midfield spot. And that ship has sailed (if it might have been waiting for a moment or two.)

What choice do they have? If they are forced to work with what they have, then they live and die by those guys whether we like it or not.
