Trialists look like they are a defender and maybe a striker?

You know the team is on hard times when the "joke" name on the shirts moves from Al O'Cation to Trialist

So 1-0 to LAFC. Unsurprisingly, goals are going to be hard to come by

Herdman needs to stop setting these time-frames. Also, the guy looks to have aged 10 years in the last 6-7 months.

So, Birmingham defender Kevin Long is supposedly about to sign for TFC?

It some ways i like that he does this as it adds lots of pressure to the front office.

BTW that was a weird starting XI? Who was the striker and why no Insigne?

Yeah interesting..is that 3 pre season games now where Insigne apparently hasn't started or seen much time? Resting this early? Or maybe has a knock of some kind?

It seems like one of the two trialists was playing striker.

Please God let this be true , the thought of going into our first game with the same dummies back there as last season is a very scary thought , bringing in a guy like this with his experience at the top level at least gives us a bit of a chance of being a bit better than last season .

Solid vet. Good at actually defending (ground duels, air duels, clearances).

Not great on the ball but whatever.

33 but has low miles from being mostly a backup at burnley for years.

Getting O'Neill's countryman might actually help with chemistry early - like the signing.

We need size, strength and grit. Fits all three. Bit old, but these days 33 isn't decrepit.

Birmingham fans seem to rate him. Apparently he was starting (and they were winning) until Rooney was hired but he didn't rate Long.

As soon as he left he came back into the team, nursed and injury for a while but lost his place, as they have six other centre backs.

So, as of now our back 3 is probably

    O'Neill-Long-Petretta

I wonder how Rosted fits in, if at all. He played some DM when he was younger, and he's quite mobile. Given his size and relative experience playing back, I wonder if he wouldn't end up on the right side CB spot more than Petretta.

I really don't rate Petretta's defending. I thought he was very poor, very easily beaten on the dribble and not very quick. His strength, such as it was, seemed to be going forward.

Rosted made some poor, late decisions when pressing forward, and obviously sees himself as a pressing defender, but I wonder if he wouldn't be better as a stay-at-home type in this league. Bit Petretta played at a higher level, so maybe he's more up to MLS' speed of play.

I feel we have a lot of players who no real clear idea on how they will fit in. Rosted, Petretta, Mabika, Blessing, Diomande,Cash....

Petretta I could see as a wing back or more forward playing defenseman.

A lot of wasted international spots in that group of players you have listed.

We should offer Eustaquio a DP deal now, while he isn't playing in Portugal. He's lost his starting spot and didn't make the bench his last game. Fans are speculating he has fallen out with the management team.

Regardless our front office should be making the effort. That would be a huge upgrade

i like the idea of signing Kevin Long, i think this is the right type of player for the club, now its just a matter of getting the deal done and at the right price, hopefully the days of the bad deal are behind us

Anybody have any idea why Long is only coming in now?

Is this genuinely opportunistic- did he just lose his spot? Or was he just ….17th on our list….

Or perhaps Porto was resting him for this mid-week's Champions game with Arsenal.

That said, I would not mind Estaquio in RED.

Maybe injuries are at play but, it is very interesting that Mailula or Owusu didn't seem to get a lot of time on the field with other first team players. We have a coach who is regularly talking about who important it is to bring in bodies and it feels like our GM is not able to seal the deal or is getting out-negotiated at the last minute?

I don't think we'll know until somebody who doesn't like Herdman or Hernandez goes & talks to the Athletic (who all seem to be in love with Bob Bradley)
Caldwell came in later - its been known to happen.

This has been on my wishlist since 2020. I started talking about it when Staq first went to Portugal and starting getting minutes under Herdman (which did not happen at first).

They could have had him for 5M Euros back then.

Come on he was starting every game then something happened aka an injury in the Jan 5th game. Since subbed off there he's getting sub minutes. Porto is not selling.
