TFC Pravda has a pre-draft article up with Jason Hernandez. Interesting tidbit

“That's without including the external discussions we're having about players currently on our roster that potentially could be on the move and then conversations being had for players to join us. We are very active in all of those areas,” he closed. “I'm very hopeful that we'll have some news to report, sooner rather than later as we are in some advanced discussions in different areas, but it would be too early to share any details behind that. But yes, a lot is happening.”

Both KSB and Spicer are listed as Generation Adidas players.

It's very rare that we've done this over the years, and I suspect he's our first pick. He looks a level of talent above DeAndre coming out of school, and Kerr was our top scorer last year despite still being very raw.

I have had the same thought.

    According to Northern Tribune.ca:

“While Toronto FC has the first pick and Stewart-Baynes is predicted by some to go straight away – and who better than with his hometown club – there is a caveat: a trusted source with MLS connections told us that Stewart-Baynes preferred to avoid a TFC selection, believing that they don’t offer the best path to his development.”

Probably true as it stands now. At the very least, we have too many millions invested in wingers who will be unlikely to sit to allow a rookie to play… and that’s already a problem because our coach doesn’t usually play with wingers.

Safest things would be to trade the pick or use it to choose the best centre back.

I'm gonna go out and say Spicer is our guy, although I would definitely prefer to use it on a guy like Nate Jones who could slot right into a 3 man backline next year.

I'm in the CB or CM club.

Not like it would make a difference with our draft history

I am as well but at this point our roster has about 2 or 3 MLS quality players on it so we can't be fussy.

Hernandez mentioned choosing someone who can contribute to the club for years to come. Pretty much unheard of around here. Not sure if he and our scouting dept have the know-how yet, but it’s a nice sentiment. Also suggests to me that he’s not thinking about position as much as quality.

But given the salary cap in general and our specific situation, getting good inexpensive centre backs in the draft is a way to be competitive (for example Philly of a few years back).

I was hoping John Tavares was going to be the new striker.

The lack of priority or care in focusing and hyping up the draft is reflective in the mls panelists/experts predictions in the board so far lol.

First 3 picked so far are names not even mentioned by these guys - spicer was much lower on mock drafts. Clearly they've punted this work off to some analyst (cause i don't think theres central scouting systems in mls lol) - and these guys are just picking it up as content.

Board don't miss once again - good call on Spicer. Sucks if Stewart Baynes was supposed to be a consensus pick but wasn't keen on being here. Hopefully he doesn't become a Buchanan 2.0 lol

No judgment until he plays a handful of games. NCAA is a bit of a crap shoot so it’s hard to tell.

Unless Baynes was far and away the best talent, seems like he wouldn’t be the most natural fit for our roster.

Spicer brings one very valuable asset we sorely lack - incredible pace. At worst he will be a 75th minute sub to put pressure on tired defenders.

little highlight package included in this tweet.

i wonder if they will be looking at using him as a wingback or LM under herdman's system.

maybe so… though I think JMR will be given a chance to be our LWB. From the highlights (Mariner style) Spicer looks like he should be closer to goal.

I remember when the draft was done in person like they do with the NFL/NBA Draft etc and it was on ESPN. You would have Alexi, Taylor doing full on break downs on guys being selected even the second round. The expectations of players even taken in say the top 5 stepping in and playing a lot right out of the gate has diminished greatly?

Some local background on Spicer from 2020, from when he left for college. He started training with the men's national team back then, so he'll be a T&T callup, I imagine.

    Cool.

Mentions him as a striker. I think he played there also, in part, at college.
