I suspect Matthew Doyle's "numbers" column on our game this week may be the most irrelevant thing ever written on mlssoccer.com:

"Bob Bradley hasn’t gotten his Toronto side pressing like LAFC used to. Thus far they’ve generated only 128 sequences that started in the attacking third, second-fewest in the league per game behind only an Orlando side that’s been juggling lineups. Charlotte are sixth in that stat. They’re a more dedicated pressing team than folks seem to realize."

That's it. No clarification or point on why a team would definitely always want to press, or what's troublesome about us not doing it as often as his other team. It doesn't occur to him in the slightest that different players might equate to a different approach.

Given the lack of TFC coverage if anyone feels like reading the Charlotte version of Beezer (minus the opening line joke), here’s their pregame report:

And another Doyle column reposted here because we’re now playing Charlotte. With Bronico suspended and Westwood injured I wonder how they’ll play?

I had a look at the highlights on MLS.com from Charlotte’s last match but they’re edited so tightly to shots and fouls with no build up at all that they have no context and not much can be gleaned about what’s going on.

About that red card given out by Disco

Looked like one at the time & the 360 pundits including their ref pundit. Studs straight to the shin - could broke his leg.

The ref at the time didn't even give a yellow.

Charlotte COULD have used their once a year "take a second look at this please" option but chose not to - tells you what they ACTUALLY think of it.

Yeah, wasn’t long ago those positions seemed less than adequate. With Richie, Petretta, Gutierrez, JMR and Franklin things are looking good. We’ll see what happens with Ritchie and his loan. He’d still be a big loss, I’d expect, if he goes. For obvious reasons and because he’s the one that can comfortably play both sides.

Man.... don't do that! I just had a frantic search for us dropping third dp money on Guti.

Shouldn't the more famous one be dead before we start calling ours that?

I guess because Bob is our manager we have to to the LAFC press no matter what players we have on the roster or who might be available. Forget about the fact that is wasn't working. Just keep doing it.

Doyle has the worst case of confirmation bias, it’s takes him forever to adjust once he gets an idea in his head.

Alonso has been signed to another short term deal for tomorrow. He was quite impressive last weekend. Wonder who is still out as I assume all the internationals are back, any of those out this weekend?

Maybe Bob’s thinking of not playing either Oso or Kaye the full 90? Or does an emergency situation has to be proven to the league to make one of these kinds of call ups?

No, you do not need to justifying anything to sign someone anymore like you had to in the past.

I imagine. Oso had two games this week, effectively, already. At least then they have cover if he's leggy.

Molinaro has an article about how TFC was able to re-sign Coello to another deal. I haven't subscribed yet, so can't read it though

According to that article short term loan players can max out at 2 games appearances.

So Coello playing tomorrow means he is maxed out & would have to either come up under hardship rules (less then 16 outfield roster players available) or be signed.

Interesting. I think a case could be made for signing him. Bob has said Micheal won’t play every game, we’ll have likely 4-5 matches without Oso and Kaye during Nations League, it seems, unlike some, Bob doesn’t see Gutierrez as a midfielder. And about Coello himself, he’s 23, with 13 or 14 years of La Liga training, three years of US college soccer, and a season each of USL 2 and MLS Next. Probably not much to be gained by him staying at TFC 2.

Against signing him might be that Bob wants to add an under 22 initiative mid in summer who would get those minutes.

Just watched todays presser with Bob , why do they even bother we this , he clearly doesn’t want to do them, he offers nothing, best answer he gave was when someone asked him a basketball question

Yep, Alonso will become something similar to Themi last year, but he maxed out when he signed four short term deals. He only played in one game during those after which he was signed to a MLS contract.

Interesting that he simply wants to be known as Alonso.

    Bradley on Charlotte:

“Typically they’re 4-3-3. (Forward Karol) Swiderski was such a big player in the past, now they bring in (Enzo) Copetti. He’s more of a real nine (striker). He’s strong, he likes to play with people around him. He brings guys into the game, he works hard,” Bradley said. “I think they’re still trying to figure out, ‘OK, what are we doing with Swiderski? And then what does the attack look like?’ So they’ve changed a little bit along the way. (Kerwin) Vargas still gives them something when they play him on the left. He’s still an interesting player.

“They’ve tried Swiderski on the right, I don’t know if that’s something they’ll continue. Can they switch the 4-2-3-1 and play Swiderski underneath Copetti? Yes. That’s possible, especially on a day when they’re down some guys in the midfield with the suspension. (Charlotte midfielder Brandt Bronico was issued a one-match suspension for serious foul play that occurred against the New York Red Bulls). And at least one out injured. So we’ll see.“

    Game day

Wet with potential thunderstorms between noon & four. Then wind switches to the NW & chance of rain/flurries until game time. Around 4 at kickoff.

Going to be a wet damp stadium but warmer then the last 2 games.

What a wild shift in weather and temperature over today.

I'm out at Woodbine Beach right now and it's absolutely glorious, warm sun and very spring like.

Kick-off is will be the 15th inning of winter, lol

I have a concern that a LOT of people think that this game will be a repeat of last year's CLT visit to TFC.

Last year, their coach decided to give up midfield but not do a block - we killed them before the half. Also, for that game, most teams didn't know about Berna's signature in from the right & shoot move.

I suspect this will be a MUCH tougher match.
