    Default TFC II 2023 Season

Result of the exhibition game Sunday March 19th, 2023 between Toronto FC II (MLS NEXT Pro) and York United FC (CPL) held at the TFC Training Centre (inside the bubble) in Downsview at 7:45pm.

38 min...York Kevin Dos Santos GOAL...York Osaze De Rosario from 15 yards on right hits the left post with his shot and a YU player has his shot stopped. Dos Santos shoots 10 yard rebound past defender and fallen goalie Luca Gavran to right side of net.

59 min...York Osaze De Rosario GOAL...York Paris Gee pass from 20 yard line from left has De Rosario one-touch low 8 yarder into right side of net past diving goalie.

    Final Score:...Toronto FC II........0........York United FC......2.......

Both teams wore un-numbered training shirts although I could see a small number on most of the York players under their right shoulder.
    Figured York starting line-up was
    ...........................1 Niko Giantsopoulos
    2 Paris Gee...3 Tass Mourdoukoutas...32 Brem Soumaoro...43 Lassana Faye
later edit: 16 Max Ferrari...28 Jeremy Gagnon-Lapare...8 Elijah Adekugbe
10 Oussama Alou...24 Osaze De Rosario...11 Kevin Dos Santos

Right after the second goal both teams made multiple substitutions. Matthew Baldisimo and Markiyan Voytsekhovskyy were the York ones I figured out. 64 minutes brought on Chris Campoli for injured Kevin Dos Santos. Yes Campoli has been U-Sports drafted twice by York and the year in between by Halifax. He still has one more year of university left! I didn't notice if Mo Babouli was here. Brian Wright was running on his own with the trainer's instructions during the pre-game warmup but was not in the game.

I was surprised by the result as TFC II will start their regular season next weekend while York has one more month of pre-season. TFC II used two MLS signed players that I recognized--forward Jordan Perruzza and defender Kobe Franklin.

CPL roster contrast. Halftime had TFC II warming up 13 subs and York had 7.
I'll post more details maybe by tomorrow but unnumbered uniforms rule out a play by play.

Thank you for this RR. I know the threads don't get the traction of the MLS squad - but the work is appreciated.

I'll check out the highlights after matches but was disappointed with MLSPro website layout and coverage. They needed to at least match USL is they want to appear a cut above.

Not a great day for the De Ro family today as TFC II played at York Lions Stadium with Adisa getting a rare start in net as regular goalie Luka Gavran was serving a concussion protocol picked up in training earlier in the week. New England Revs II came back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 with Damian Rivera scoring twice within two minutes in the last 10 minutes to turn the game around.
Meanwhile older brother Osaze came in at 65 minutes to finish York United's 4-1 loss to Pacific FC in Victoria.

So Jesus (Batiz) scores at 70 minutes (10:33pm) to make it 3-0 TFC II over Orlando City B and the lights on the center line pole go out. A few minutes later the other four standards (the ones in the corners) go out too except for maybe four of the 20 something lights on those poles, probably for safety reasons. No announcements...players warm up and eventually leave the field.

11:00pm and they start playing music but it's from their same The Weeknd and Drake playlist we've already heard. Very convenient that now they won't hear anyone complain from down below asking them for an update. One guy up there mimes '5 more minutes' every ten minutes.

At 11:45pm, the lights come back on suddenly. OK then at 11:48pm the PA announcement is "Thank you for your patience during the power outage. The officials have decided to call the game. Toronto wins 3-0". Another 'Thank you for your patience; then they try to sell us tickets to the next home game.

'Just Can't Get Enough' plays and people go home.

The players returned to the dressing rooms after trying to stay stretched out for the first 25 minutes. The MLSE staff played kick around at the south goal instead of asking any of the fans if they needed assistance. Stairs were in semi-darkness.

Geez 1 hour and 12 minutes until an announcement.

Not a great day for OCB. Their flight was delayed so this game was pushed back from 8pm until 9pm. (All evening games were scheduled for 7pm until this one...no wonder very few children were here). OK both teams did tweet out the change in times with six hours notice so I'll give them that.

plus there was a a reference to a local curfew heading the reason for the match being ended early. So not sure what the deal is with that ?

Think it was a bit of a domino effect, earlier in the day it was announced that the match's kickoff was being pushed back from 8 to 9 pm because of OCB's flight's arrival in Toronto being delayed. Anyone who knows a lick about travel would know that delays can be a part of it and to think that traveling on the day of the game from Central Florida was smart, someone has to have their head checked. I know this practice was common during the pandemic but that was being done with charters , assume that was not the case Sunday, but not sure.

So once that match started at 9, the power to the lights seems to have gone out during the second half causing a long delay and thus pushing this match up against the curfew that seems to exists , not sure exactly what it is? But midnight I assume it is for whatever it may be. Hopefully this does not happen again.

Jesus (Batiz) scores on the last kick of the game94+ minutes but the lights go out (they literally did last game withthe curfew) as time ran out and Huntsville City won 2-1. Batizmissed a PK at 74 minutes putting it wide left...an optical illusionbecause they started to play the TFC goal music but crunch we heardthe ball hit the backboard in the endzone. Former York United FCplayers Isaiah Johnston played 75 min and Chrisnovic N'Sa played thefull 90 and both looked great. Some superfan said the MLS players of Marshall-Rutty and Akinola were last minute loanees. Overthe years I've seen that if the loaned players are put in the lineupat the last minute, the whole team doesn't play well. Yep passeswere off...I thought you were going to run for it etc.
And Mark Anthony Kaye was sitting two rows in front of me.

Toronto had a shoot out win over Atlanta after a 0-0 regulation tie. TFC dominated possession and shots but had poor finishing that they could score. Themi Antonoglou was the only MLS contracted player loaned to TFC II on Thursday that was even in the lineup. (expect the others are back for the MLS clubs game on Wednesday).
TFC won 4-3 in the fifth round of penalty kicks. Jesus Batiz was the only TFC player to miss with a low weak kick to the right. He did in Thursday's game too with a blast wide left. Luka Gavran saved the day with saves on Karim Tmimi with balls of steel nerves by standing still on Tmimi'd penenka chip made an easy catch. He then dove to the left to save Jonantan Villal's low right side PK. Julian Altobelli scored the winner.
