What would everyone say is our most pressing need position wise?
I see it in this order - striker, CB and CDM if Ibarra doesn't return somehow.
With the Prince singing, I think we badly need a CDM...
President.
But all joking aside, I agree with those that said striker. We signed someone who may or may not work out, we need a sure thing.
After that it’s a bit murky. Can we retain Ibarra? Is a replacement for Hedges more important than a playmaker or a really good box-to-box option. Tough to say and still plenty of holes to fill.
Striker(s), CB, CDM, CAM.
I assume the following are all gone next season:
Diomande
Ayo
VV
O'Neil
Peruzza
Sapong
Bradley
Ibarra (would be nice to keep, but doubtful).
I think O'Neill and Bradley will still be here. Both signed through 2024. Maybe Ayo as well, assuming he doesn't light it up in San Jose, since I don't see why they'd buy him outright. Diomande has to be first-choice for a buyout, so those contracts would be otherwise hard to move.
MLS allows clubs to pay out option years that are owed if not paid in the contract's term without it counting as a buyout.
So if either Michael or the club (per Fifa regs) decided not to take the option, he wouldn't come back.
But if the option year was used to divide his overall contract value for cap reasons, they have to pay it out to him regardless. It doesn't count against the cap because he was never a rostered player for that season.
They had to change this after the Camillo Sanvezzo case, in which FIFA ruled MLS' unilateral options are illegal under international labor agreements to which FIFA is a party.
Not sure IIUC, so I will defer to any who are proficient in Portuguese, seems a mini twitter war may be going on involving Odair Hellnann et al about their performance/success between Santo's supporters? So, IIUC, one accusation seems to be that the club, or a proxy, may have leaked his personal cell number during a match? Have I understood this correctly? I must be wrong, some lost in translation in a nuanced discussion going on, right?
Potential free agent list.

So Bradley not listed on the free agent list, so contract must be guaranteed for 2024.
Can't imagine us picking up any of the 3 options on Vázquez, Sapong, or Ranjitsingh
Death, taxes and Michael Bradley given unannounced extensions.
I see Max Crepeau is listed. A good goalie and gets Manning his token CMNT player on the roster.
Believe MC would be a decent replacement if TFC prefers SJ to move on. If < EDIT: whoops not Nashville but Columbus > do not sign him, would Gressel be a consideration; @ about 900+K?

We knew this. Bradley took his deal with ~$1.5M remaining, and tore it up and took a two year deal, to create cap space in 2023. iirc correctly he is making $600K this year, so we will have to see what the number is next year. There is a good chance it is something like $1M on the books for 2024.

I don't think there's any chance the club does this, Manning would be too afraid of the optics. It's not his style. I think if Michael doesn't retire and we can't trade him (And I don't see how we could) then assume he's here next season. The big question is if he's still captain or not
