No word on Canadian options...baring using a VPN.
DirectTV for business is different from regular direct TV and charges thousands of dollars per season per institution, on the basis of it being equivalent under copyright law to a pay tv performance.

In Canada, I understand we have similar laws and we used to occasionally hear of them being enforced at the paper. But I imagine most, based on perceived lack of demand, will only broadcast the free weekly game on TSN.

The cost in the US for this is $100 a business license.

    https://www.directv.com/forbusiness/customer-support/

(soccer is cheap compared to other options)

On another note - mobile phone push - won't happen here of course

That's just the sign up price for Fox Soccer Plus monthly. You then pay a Regional Sport Network fee on top of that ($15 per DirectTv receiver, to a max of $250 per business per month), with different pricing per region, plus an occupancy fee based on how many customers you are allowed to seat under the fire code.

Occupancy fees range from $68 per box per month, to $114 depending on package and biz size.

Also, as each broadcast has to be directly through DirectTV Business equipment, you have to rent multiple DirectTv boxes per month for multiple TVs, each costing another $20 a month minimum (and some require HD rentals, which are more still).

So if you have six TVs on standard definition, which no one really wants anymore (and most also require the base DirectTV subscription, another $20 per, to access teh sports packages), you'd be paying $730 minimum per month.

And keep in mind, this is their Fox Soccer price.

If you were a very small bar with one direct TV HD broadcast of Fox soccer, you'd pay about $223 a month. Base package $100 , plus $15 for Regionan Network fees, plus $39 for an HD set box, plus $67.99 occupancy charge.

(Psssst... anyone want to guess why DirectTV is dying the slow death of a thousand cuts? Their NBA fee STARTS at $600 per month)

The thing is, commercial streaming of streaming services is almost completely unpoliced right now, so I imagine quite a few places will just slap on MLS on the AppleTV+ app, because you can get it on most smart TVs now.

So we might end out with more exposure as a result. I wonder if Apple will police it somehow? They can probably hire "mystery shopper" types to do spot checking.

"With at least 1" TSN MLS game each week.

"a comprehensive slate of regular season matches"

So, not every game on TSN.

And they just went to a so called break and you could hear the broadcasters just talking to each other with a blurred screen, assume this is where a commercial would be in the regular season.

Looks like Luka Petrasso is starting for Orlando... at right fullback? That's weird. Maybe they're doing an inverted fullback thing where he cuts in high.

Man, if this is going to buffer like this for every game, without an option to decrease the dpi, I'm glad I'm not paying extra.

Are you watching it on a windows browser? It's not the through rate, as my internet is gigabyte fibre optic, and it looks like an old video game for me. It's not out and out buffering or choppy, but it looks about 24 fps, 30 at most.

I imagine on the dedicated Android app on our big tv it'll be better, but I'm upstairs at my desk watching it and it's pretty piss poor.

EdIT: I've been told by Apple fanatics online that this is a deliberate move by Apple to force Windows browser users to buy their products or use OS's other than Windows. Apparently they haven't update the windows browser experience since 2018.

Yeah, it looks like their windows browser is capped at 480p but the signal is 1080p, so everything is smooth except the ball, which looks about 24 fps.

Looks like Petrasso is on the left, pre-game map was inaccurate.

Yeh, pretty much this. There is no Android app for an android phone so tried using a browser based there & didn't even come up.

Yeh, thanks for the info. I only run Windows streaming & as I don't have cable, I don't have Apple TV as an app. Might have to find a down on its luck PS4 console somewhere.

It may honestly be cheaper to find a Roku TV or something like that

It is funny that none of the MLS Social platforms including both TFC and the Galaxy have not mentioned at all that the match ins on Apple TV tonight. The Galaxy have been some sort of radio broadcast that you can listen to on YouTube. Guess this is really a soft launch.

    Considering it.....want the ethernet option.

Thanks for the help people - if I can't watch games, that would make the game day threads painful.

TFC is on tonight? I don’t see a schedule on the AppleTV app.

Ed: never mind. I see it now.
