FYI the budget for Bellotti was spent on bernadeschi… and he wanted insigne level money. So that ship has sailed
I don't think TheGoodson posted that as opinion. AFAIK Goodson has dropped some insider info before.
That said, if a DP came around that they absolutely could not pass on, I am confident they would get whatever backing they needed. Just no more Pozuelo/Soteldo type deals where money is flushed down the drain. (Not saying Poz was a bad signing. Alluding to the transfersoap $$$).
Understood. I am aware of TheGoodson. Am a strong supporter and advocate of his knowlegde and say. My perspective on this matter is implied in your second paragraph; it is always a business calculus. Imagine if Jorge with Marcelo Mendes conference call Manning saying their guy wants to move to Toronto and play for TFC. Is Billy's answer sorry... budgetary constraints?

^Wow that is an impressive highlight reel. Not to go all Paul Mariner (RIP) - but that changed my view of the player...
I wonder what his salary and term is. 1M for 4 years? Maybe max TAM? This is no "undiscovered gem" type project, this is a serious signing.

^^
IIUC, some of the internet chatter is that he was desperate to get out of Kasimpasa/Turkiye; hopefully favourable? There are injury history concerns.

I think we have enough firepower to survive if he doesn’t contribute offensively. Defending is key, especially 1v1 when he’s out on the flank. We really need things to solidify across the backline.
I have seen 0 about him either way. He could be the worst or best at defending on the planet and I wouldn't know.
Trent is great going forward. Can't defend for his life, but he's in a top league. I only know about that because I follow it closely.
I agree with AG above. How he settles into defending is way more important.
Does this contribute to that conversation...

I think your initial 20 and 20 pitch might have been a little giddy excitment, though.
If the Italians are even shooting enough to each score 20, we probably have real connectivity problems with the strikers and central mids.
If they each ended up with 15 and 10, I'd be fucking ecstatic, because that would mean at least one striker also in the double digits and the team as a whole probably 55-60 goals for the season.
If we manage that, the defense can still be a little shaky and we're at least still in the playoffs.
We scored 44 goals last season, and were gifted five own goals.
An eleven goal swing is pretty good. We did have them for 12 games, representing 13 goals.
Our goal per game ratio over their period went up by a half a goal, so we'd be looking at about 17 more over the season if that held. Depending on how many we were gifted that would put us at 61-66 goals. Should be enough for playoffs, easily.
If either of them -- or both -- miss two-to-four games over the season, that's 5-8 fewer goals... and we're back in at 53-57 goals. So I'm just being conservative.
Philly was the only team that scored more than 66 last year and LAFC was right on that.
Would take a lot of pressure off the defense, because two goals per game equals a lot of time in their end.
