This move is interesting - and yeah, BB can it appears read a calendar, which many seemed to wonder about - but I mean, having an opinion about this now?

Let's see how he plays and what his salary turns out to be, then we can swap opinions about how this looks…

I am sad it wasn’t Adekugbe. I mean, why not?

    But...

I have to wonder why Basel gave up on him. They invested years in him and he played significant minutes for almost 5 years.

He had a ligament injury that kept him out of action for nearly 6 months.

I am sure TFC required him to pass a physical. Right?
Given how long he was there, I imagine they just got outbid on a Bosman free transfer. Turkish League pays better, better competition.

Players of this profile have traditionally done really, really well in this league. Just a lot of parity with the Swiss League.

I read somewhere that it was Petretta who wouldn’t re-sign and not Basel’s lack of interest. Most likely just about better wages and new opportunity.

Believe you are correct; sort of, yes. Didn't remember details and had to internet review... before TFC he played for Liechtenstein Club Vaduz that plays in Swiss (Tier Two) Challenge League?

So far it's been an antsy off season of many expectations, one fulfilled, another pending, with few rumours, a couple of left-field signings and maybe, just maybe, some surprises still.

Will always support it... wouldn't mind a certain Italian striker and another Swiss Super Leaguer to join this TFC lot; the one whom the football world constantly loves to taunt and criticize; 'why always me?'.

Just curious how much is Balo’s current salary? I’d have him at TFC in a heart beat, shirt sales alone would pay his way

    Patrice Bernier just tweeted this

Another free agent player (Matt Hedges) on his way to signing with Toronto FC is Sean Johnson, a former NYCFC player.

He'll find a team, just not this one unfortunately - no space.

Maybe it's because of the Swiss and Austrian national teams, but I think of Swiss football as being high work rate, aggressive pressuring, commitment to defense. From that perspective it looks like Patretta will be great and fit what we want to do so I'm optimistic. They're using TAM, so it's not a small amount of money at play though, so some risk there. I'm hoping he plays more as a true full back and let Richie be the wingback he's best suited to playing. I'm looking forward to seeing him on the pitch.

Officially, this is a successful off-season then for me. A lineup of:

    Johnson

    Petretta - MacNaughton - Hedges - Laryea

    Bradley

    Osorio - MAK

    Insigne - JJ - Bernardeschi

is playoff-worthy and should make us favourites for the Canadian Championship.

add in a starting CB to that lineup and can compare it with any team in the league.

imo they need a striker too but could wait til summer.

they badly need CM depth now tho

Not that high but would obviously be DP salary. I'd only be open to it if he is fully committed and Insigne, Berna etc all buy in on it.

Rosted could be that - as for CM depth, Kosi and Nelson are serviceable but I'd agree, one more max-non-xAM player as depth would be great.

It's such a crapshoot whether a young player picks up a good enough read of the game. Kosi looked pretty good at times in midfield; it was only when they moved him to rb that he looked lost.

Nelson looked better in mid than wing, too.

Agree, a little weird though, no? If so, what's the motive? Maybe acting as a proxy?

probably just found out and put it out there.

i'd imagine it's very close to being announced if people are talking about it happening so openly.

Yep. Just realized he resigned from CFM's first team AC position, still with academy?, to join TVA Sports as a broadcaster/journo; fulfilling duties? Now with competitor RDS? IDKA!

I still think they won't announce anything until after the USMNT game tonight. Likely tomorrow.

Do you think O’Neill will play ahead of McNaughton? I think McNaughton is a solid CB but think O’Neill with that bit more experience will be on the team sheet first. Still would love another good named CB to come in and start over both of them.

MacNaughton played pretty well in his year here - I'd think he earned the trust of Bob based on the two players' playing time.

If all goes as it should it's got to be Rosted as the #2.

O'Neill probably #3 and McNaughton #4 but I bet both see some action here and there.
