We didn't get rid of Delgado - he wanted to go back to California.
to be fair- i believe delgado wanted to go play for LA- TFC could have forced him to play out 1 year then trade him like they forced lawrence and auro out.
defense would have been much stronger with lawrence and auro.
Also should have forced to keep poz to see the beauty between LI/FB/POZ - but it seems we do right by some players to let them go to LA(delgado) and Miami(Poz) and do wrong with others Auro/Lawrence.
lol - its beginning to be comical now.
Lawrence maybe as he was good before coming here but he wasn't good here at all. So possibly he can do a job.
Auro on the other hand isn't what is needed. If he was any good at all he would be somewhere now after getting perma-benched then dumped in Brazil. I remember defending him on here time & time again for being "okay" while he was the whipping boy du jour and now somehow revisionist history has him being a good FB?
The only 2017 era player revisionist history has not resurrected as possibly still useful is Jozy
I await the Waiting the Red Jan 2024 discussion where somebody says we shoulda kept Bono.
My sense on Lawrence is that his numerous off-field activities, including several large lawsuits in the U.S., were seen as a considerable distraction, particularly as he allegedly was also skipping practises.
He runs five or six entrepreneur-style businesses on the side, in NY state, Florida and Jamaica.
The timing issue is important, though. 32/33 is where a lot of wingers begin to slow, their reaction times get worse etc. We have a two-year best window for Insigne before he becomes super-talented-but-slow (at which point he'll still be a better player than most of MLS. But I digress).
We're back in the lack of signing/rumour cycle where already long hashed out discussion of past players we should have kept arises once again.
A few posts above saying we should have kept Lawrence and no one knows what would have come of that except we would have had someone in the LB position now where we are sorely lacking. However now that we are trying to get Johnson maybe that would have helped sway him a little more having a nats team mate here?
Anyone got just a drop of a transfer rumor? I am croaking over here.
Adam Pearlman (TFC2 player who signed a couple of short term loans with TFC) appears to be training with French club RC Strasbourg (posted on his instagram story)
Any chance Dayne St. Clair could still be in play in SJ isn’t happening?
I'm actually surprised that he's not at the TFC pre-season camp. I thought he'd be one of the TFC2 players given a look for a first team contract. Maybe this is Strasbourg actually being interested in signing him. He's still 17 until April, so he can't be transferred until the next window, but could be getting a look now for a future transfer. Or maybe it's just a training stint and I'm giving it more thought than necessary
Since we haven't gotten a pre-season roster attendance from TFC.
Via an article from Neil Davidson:
"Romero and Greg Ranjitsingh, who was TFC’s third-string ‘keeper last season, are the only goalkeepers currently on Toronto’s first-string roster. Ranjitsingh is not in camp. He’s back in Toronto recovering from a non-COVID illnessAdisa De Rosario, an 18-year-old Toronto FC 2 ‘keeper who is the son of former Canadian international and TFC star Dwayne De Rosario, is also in camp in San Diego."

Doesn't mention Luka Gavran being in camp given he talked about the keepers. I thought he'd be there (I guess he still could be even though he only mentions De Rosario)
Also, jloome, I know you've proposed TFC signing Rothrock to a first team deal a few times, he's mentioned a couple of times in the article (as Romero's college teammate) with Neil basically saying he's not returning to Toronto from the way its written

Just on the Larin thing, I looked up the details of his Orlando departure. I had forgotten how interesting it was- and what a real pissing contest it was!
Larin really kind of exposed MLS' practices on club options, which are actually of questionable legality. Its a super interesting topic the the league would dearly like us all to forget. So I suspect the welcome mat is not out for Larin in the league office

Wow! Interesting articles. Talk about 'A Piece Of The Action'. Fully clarified, evidenced and confirmed. Regarding MLS Transfers, outgoing transactions... typically... a 30% take for MLS ( w/MLSPA? ), 10% for the Player and 60% for the Club. I wonder if any of that fall-out, the positioning/threat of a probable legality challenge, may have had to do with any possible resentment by Larin and/or the agent. IIRC, the situation highlighted was preceded by a serious legal incident; drunk driving, drugs and going the wrong way on a major road. Perhaps this may have been instigated over an assumption that they did not appreciate how they may have been treated by the club and league; any punishment with any mandatory examinations, assessments and treatment programs. Expected some/more favourable consideration or support. Moreover, this may suggest that Cyle Larin is on the MLS 'Persona Non Grata' ( Your Not Welcomed Back ) List. That any desire by us or other clubs to acquire may be difficult/pointless to navigate without the cooperation of MLS HO; long memory syndrome.

To hear any TFC transfer rumours!
Oh yes..that's a very good point, I didn't think of it that way (when in reality I should have since he isn't actually here). I was only coming at it from the perspective of "what if" we had of kept Lawrence, maybe it would sway Johnson. But you're right, it could be the complete opposite.
Lawrence plays for the Jamaican national team and they've never been teammates. This is completely useless speculation.
Hmmm... Plan B candidate?
