That last play sort of summed up the game, Salcedo and Bradley both backing off the last ball.

Good on him for the late goal, but he had a poor game. They both did.

I don't get how NYCFC is still allowed to play in a baseball stadium after 7 years of being in the league. Are they atleast trying to get one, if not force them to RB Arena.

Whatever. This is what happens when your team in incomplete. We definitely need help, but to be this high in the standings at the end of April is a credit to BB and this squad.

6 goals in a half, a red card, and Mavinga down with an injury for over a minute equals 4 minutes of extra time apparently 🤡

I think that when we play the defending champions, we are still Champions at heart with our run with Giovinco. Resulting, in the fact that Michael Bradley and Jonathon Osario are still among the lineup that constituted two goals from the get go. We need to learn that the other teams, will come out with power struggles at certain points in the match that need to be countered well, and when you can argue there is lots of optimism with goal scoring, you would argue that as long as there is time in a match its possible to win. I think that given the moves you would do, you can argue that where the other team was placed, did a good enough job to sort of keep it out until the end.

I think Bob Bradley's subs were way too late. Could have injected some life into the game far earlier.

NYC is obv a good team & to be frank, coming out of a 2 game series with them with 3 points is pretty darn good.

Our real opponents are the teams liable to be 8-14 with us.

    I'm thinking

    Cinci
    Miami
    CBus
    Chicago
    Columbus
    DCU
    Charlotte

Against these teams, we are 1W 1 L.

We have 4 games out of the next 6 against these - 2 Cinci, DCU & Chicago.

Lets see how we do in those 4 games.

I do have a gripe about Bob's subs. Where the hell is Ayo when you are losing by two or three? If he is healthy enough to be on the bench, why isn't he on the field? We are using a big time MLS machinism on him. He needs to play if available.

Bob didn’t have his best game. He needed to change something at half time and then again when it was 3-2 and he didn’t.

It’s funny that we had two assists (one secondary) from a 19 year old today and another 19 year old scored a goal. And this is now so normal we’re not even that impressed, haha

I hope we continue to find opportunities for guys even when we strengthen the team. I feel like they are capable and will keep developing. We just need more consistent performances in other areas.

Kosi has been great. Don't think he is a RWB, but the guy definitely has the ability to play further up the field.

You can never count this team out, even when they have a stinker of a match. That's good.

The ref not giving that penalty, that was the difference between a loss and picking up a point on the road. * sigh *

As someone else said, maybe we needed that. Shows we can never be complacent.

TFC play better when we are in a 4-3-1-2. Way too many seams in the defense today that NYCFC penetrated.

Let’s not sugar coat this in any way, if NY scored 9 today would you be surprised?

yes, because they are an MLS team with MLS level finishers.

whereas a pk would have almost certainly been a goal in a game we lost by 1.

    9, yes I would, but 6 or 7 no.

I'm not sugar-coating it, this game was a disaster defensively, I'm just noting there were a few positives.
Imagine Bradley scoring for one? That's something I never expect.
MLS is a tough, physical league, that emphasizes speed, and features plastic fields, grueling travel, extreme weather, and incompetent refs. - NK Toronto

    1. In reply to this post - We have done well with McNaughton in the "3"; not sure if he substitutes for O'Neil or Mavinga, but Shaff/ Kobi/ JMR are not full backs they are wingbacks and get torched down the wing as Shaff did yesterday - a 3 is a protection for that by pushing them up the field a bit. Does the "4' do that? I think only if its a 4-4-1-1 or 4-4-2 so the FB has protection

    2. Also, I am still worried that BB didn't change things yesterday. We got overrun down the sides and to some extent down the middle. A fit Priso at the standard he was last year would add excellent balance to the midfield given Poz looks like he is running in molasses, MB has lost a step and Oso isnt a speedster. A fit Priso is a realistic possibility. In the absence of Priso could he have brought Chung on at the half and moved Kosi beside MB then?

And 3. Petrasso had his worst match. He was a step behind in movement and thinking - shows the he still has to develop and on a small field like that with play one step faster he (and the others) are very vulnerable defensively

I was also really surprised about Petrasso. Just a thought: perhaps both he and Shaff didn't know what to do, or how to interplay, when they were both so close together? I think Petrasso was better when he had more space and freedom on the left. Yesterday he and Shaff were almost stepping on each others toes.

I'm still surprised that BB didn't change anything earlier. He could have at least tried asking Shaff to hang back more, especially when we were still in the lead. (Things already looked dicey then, and you could sense that NYC might score a couple.) Only pick a very few times to bomb forward. Otherwise provide defensive cover, and leave Petrasso room to operate on the left.
