It really doesn’t help that MB has been much better this season than the last two. More consistent, beaten less often, left behind less often. He’s started from deep most of the time and not having to track back has limited his exposure.

So all his father sees is the player he created getting two tackles a game and working hard for 90 mins.

But Priso is already a better defender than Michael at 19. Michael was never a defensive specialist in Europe, he was a number eight.

Hopefully I’m freaking out over nothing and this one doesn’t happen.

Transfermarkt is starting to become reasonably respected for its valuations, and they have Priso at $1.1M already, above what Colorado paid for MAK. So value for value it might not be seen as far off.

Priso’s upside isn’t being accounted for in that equation, as he’s 19.

Kaye's value on TM is 5x that

Heís referenced in certain interviews some others in his cohort played nice and ended up nowhere. Seems to credit looking after his own interests for the fact he has a career.

Have to say itís hard to argue with it. If you told me my chances on making it depended on Greg Vanney, Iíd have skipped town too.

But that’s only relevant if they have offers to buy him, and at that value, from outside MLS.

The point is that Priso would recoup their actual outlay. If they’re not as high on Kaye as his transfer value indicates, and they’re not getting offers, they at least get their value back, and they get a 19 year old.

By the time he’s Kaye’s age (27), Ralph will likely be worth a hell of a lot more than $5M.

It’s certainly not cut and dried as imbalanced.

That’s most definitely not what I heard, from multiple sources who are pretty well tapped in at TFC. He was let go because he was very high on his ability and not very high on listening to coaches. He has also commented on that himself, saying he lacked the maturity to make it when he was still with TFC.

I don't know why Bob doesn't seem to rate Priso. Maybe he read the boards when we collectively cheered when Perez started him over his son?

It's interwsting because, if true, looking at those coaches success rate vs his success rate elsewhere paints a picture that may reflect worse on them then him in this

Tfc played MAK at left back while he was here.

I think that’s true of multiple kids who’ve gone through our academy. We were very, very poor at recognizing potential. We told Alistair Johnson he was “too small” to be a footballer at an open tryouts, if I recall, as if a teenager’s size at 14 has ANY role in his potential. He could be six inches taller a year later, for pity’s sake.

I mean, just look at the relative success of Sigma’s kids over the same period and it’s clear the best prospects often just bypassed us.

We didn’t just mishandle youth for years, we embued the ones we kept with a sense of greatness long before they’d achieved it. I still, to this day, get the sense that some of our best prospects really think it’s just a matter of time before they’re league leaders.

This Priso deal (cynically) reminds me of when the leafs traded away Kenny Johnsson to get an old and nearly broken Wendal Clark back. Not the same, but has the same feel for me.

Well, everyoneís got their angle I guess.

Hereís an article from the athletic that taps into some of what I referenced:

    https://theathletic.com/964445/2019/...-canada/?amp=1

ďI donít know. I might bite my words in the future, but I donít really care because when you give everything you have to your home team, you expect a little bit back. And Iíve seen it happen with my friends who have signed with the first team and not get any playing time. I donít want to be in a situation like that. ď

ďat the end of the day Iím doing well in the league and I donít think theyíve had a youth player come in and do anything that Iíve done other than (Jonathan Osorio), but Oso never played in the academy.Ē

I can't say that I'm surprised his take on it is diametrically opposed to what they were saying.

Given the track records Id be inclined to believe MAK. They've always been kind of ruthless about talking down players who moved on.

I think we can see that attitude reflected in many of the kids who are here or even left recently. Remember the fallout from Ayo congratulating Dunn (? maybe someone else) for his move to Europe? Young players have an incredibly short window before they start getting overlooked for transfers. These guys watched Liam Fraser, Jordan Hamilton, and all the other guys that had to leave to even get a shot. And so far the successful side of the scale is not tipped toward those who stayed IMO.

Hopefully we get a fee for Salcedo that we can turn into GAM to help find another defender.

How that GAM/TAM gets spent could be the make or break for whether this rebuild works. We can spend whatever we want on 3 players and it makes no difference. I just hope we set our sights on a couple complimentary backend players who limit mistakes. Those guys don't need to be home runs, but they have to be able to defend so the guys up top can do their job.

Since Salcedo is a DP we can't convert his transfer fee into GAM.

Yeah, fair enough. Nobody is innocent here. List of notable guys who theyíve cut or overlooked (off the top of my head):

    Alistair Johnston
    Liam Millar
    MAK
    Tyler Pasher
    Jacen Russell-Rowe
Ryan Raposso (meh, but he plays in the league)

noxx98 is correct. Here is the exact language from the MLS Roster Rules:

"The club's share of transfer or loan fee revenue may only be used as follows: The club may assign up to $1,102,5000 of the transfer/loan revenue as General Allocation Money. In the case of Designated Players, transfer/loan revenue may not be assigned as General Allocation Money."

Correct - though to clarify my point, I meant the amount we had collected with various deals and players leaving.

Surely it canít be that he doesnít recognize the talent, as heís incredibly talented, easily the biggest upside of our youth so far (regardless of what they say about JMR, I just donít see the on-field speed of thought and read yet to say heís going to be really good).

I feel like this would be a mistake, no matter how well MAK does.

This almost feels like weíre trading Ralph so that Michael can remain a starter at 34; most of the time this year heís played well enough to be there, but his age shows up a lot, and weíve had a few games where heís been gassed by the 70 minute, in terms of having enough speed to keep up with play.

I donít like it. Trade pieces yes, but donít trade your best pieces, not when theyíre still young and developing. Short of him injuring himself or imploding off-field, we are going to regret this one down the road, in value and personnel.

Most importantly, I don’t want to give San Jose or Chicago any points …we cannot afford to. Salcedo needs to stay until we have replacements and I think he will. I have no idea what the lineup will be but we are going to need the soccer gods on our side.
For the record, the end of this week marks the two week mark since Manning started spouting off about his signings.

    These guys canít close deals.

TFC Youth Dev deserves zero benefit of the doubt. Theyíve missed out on so many players due to politics, have stunted many careers, held players back from going elsewhere.

If I had a talented kid in Ontario Iíd keep them far away from the TFC Academy.
