I suspect from the way he's handled transfers in LA we're going to see a few surprises this window, players we knew nothing about.

I don't know how to do tweet embeds but 3.5m per year seems very doable for this guy.

Still wondering how one picks out Bernadeschi in a Yorkville restaurant. Manning I can see somebody noticing but Bernie looks like half of the white guys in town.
He has a heavily inked sleeve and perhaps it was an Italian restaurant? Actually, does anyone know which restaurant it was?
Glass half full I am.
I feel for Hoilett.
Going yearly salary rate and worth by the football establishment... Fede @ probably about $7MCAD Gross verses Junior @ $310KCAD Gross < last season >.
Regrettably, Junior has been weighed and has been measured and found wanting by the football gods.
I am not so sure about that of Fede's goal scoring prowess; maybe?
I get the crux of the ongoing debate is about the worth of a DP spot for a stable but not fruitful winger.
JJ? Well JJ is JJ < that's a Shoresy for you>. I would not make that bet against him.
For me, it may also depend on how one parcels and judges the metrics.
I do not dispute that at Juve Fede's are not that exciting.
However, IIUC and by comparison...
Fede @ Fiorentina (SerieA) & Crotone (SerieB) for about 4 Seasons, totals about: 110 Appearances, 26 Goals.
Seba @ Empoli (SerieA) & Parma (SerieA) for about 3 Seasons, totals about: 101 Appearances, 28 Goals.
He is not Seba, never will be.
He is also, for those assessment periods, not that statistically detached.
By all accounts and as you mention, he may get some of the other football intangibles right; the little things, like work-rate.
I think he will.
I have tried to understand with no success, what the average lifespan of a first team Juve player is; the seasons lasted?
Also note, and I believe, Juve has had 4 managers/coaches while he has been on the team.
I realize this is par for a course in football but that sort of disruption has to be a challenging environment
I mean, how did TFC and its ballers do until we got some Vanney stability?
And look at the overhaul that has just happened to our roster by welcoming the latest!
The thoughts of being in favour/out of favour, in that situation, at that level, as and for a player must be tormenting.
Edit: Btw, I understand that any mean would get skewed by the likes of Bonucci, Buffon, Chiellini, etc. ...
What I am asking is do not completely write off his dormant production rate just yet.
This DP patient has a good chance at being revived.
Jozy had a bad couple of years at Sunderland, Fede had 5 at Juve; 2 of which experienced Covid.
Change does mature some players; focus's them.
Hopefully with this reboot, he has the ability to, and just might, get his production mojo back.

I now expect we will sign Fede.
But I am prepared for a Roy Keane/Blackburn/ManU debacle!
Some fun for the against on this...
Regarding TFC 'signing' Fede.
From the 'haters that are gonna hate!' internet contingent...
Paraphrasing... 'Yesterday half the supporters in Europe breathed a sigh of relief. The other half instead don't follow football'.
Ha! I love it!

Com'on now, turn that frown upside down!
Left field proposition.
Hey Bill, if you or any of yours are lurking, get your cohorts to dust off their Juve contacts.
Check out, consider and ask if prospect Gatti can get got... on loan.
He is a Fede also.
More important, a CB, even MID.
Young, no nonsense, hard knox, blue collar.
Incredible football story.
In for Salcedo and/or Mavinga.
Federico Gatti

Joke aside
Just a reminder that Manning's operational left hand (Tania Pedron) speaks fluent Italian & its not like Manning has never wined & dined an Italian person in this city before.
There are a LOT of Italian-Canadian connections within this organization right now, which makes the affinity for Italian players a bit of a no-brainer as far as making sure you get people who will be comfortable within the team.
Seriously people, look at the staff list

Haha now that this is almost official. So the restaurant is owned by my best friend, it’s called Giro,It was actually in Woodbridge, great place. I just didn’t want to say exactly where it was if it didn’t pan out.
But wow did it create a lot of great conversation the past month !
I don't think I have seen anyone post this, but TSN has a half hour special about Insigne tonight at 7:30 if anyone is interested - "Il Magnifico Lorenzo Insigne"
I'm also curious, with Insigne not playing due to his calf. Do you think they would still let him travel with the team and go to the away games just to sort of experience what it's going to be like with all the travel involved? We haven't had any away games since he has arrived.
Someone just kicked the window open! July 7th is here.
That is still yet to be seen, we've only had one Italian star here in the past and he did become comfortable but ultimately everyone is different. We could look at the comfort level Spanish players, two of which were some of our best in our history and felt comfortbale here (Poz, VV) whereas we've also had situations like Aketxe and Mista.
The Soteldo fiasco was surely augmented by the fact that the team was in an even worse state than now, a lockdown, and Chris Armas. On paper, it wasn't a terrible signing.
Shoe one has dropped.

MLS is a tough, physical league, that emphasizes speed, and features plastic fields, grueling travel, extreme weather, and incompetent refs. - NK Toronto

Oh. This makes this a lot better.
If you're trying to convince an Italian to come to Toronto do you take them to an Italian restaurant and show them we have good Italian food and make them feel comfortable? Or do you take them to another high end restaurant (e.g., sushi, a steakhouse, Alo, or Canoe) and show them how Toronto has a wide selection of cuisine available to them?
