I'd say all three have been good values for their salary. The team has also allowed 0.2 goals/90 fewer with Lukas on the pitch compared to when he's off. When we first signed Westberg he was on $100k. The issue was giving him a big raise to $250k+.

    Bill Manning on DP spot:

"Unless the right player presents itself over the next 3 weeks, we may push that to the winter window. And then see do you go with a young DP, where you can then add 3 more players. Some will be how the team evolves."

maybe the young dps is the way to go unless someone they cant resist comes calling has a reg dp

Saying that no defenders are coming this window is the closest thing to an official admission that the playoffs were never a goal this year that you’re likely to get. It has been speculated here, but never communicated in any official capacity, for obvious reasons.

Basically what I took from this.

Sorry - where's the quote about us not having cap space? The only quote I see is him telling Singh that we have space available.

When I challenged Manning this evening on our not finding defensive support and highlighted that the best right back in the league had just left DC for the Whitecaps, he said that the problem was cap space.
That must have been the issue when Johnston and K. Millar went to the Impact too...

while i have you noxx ,you know the mls rules really well, tfc could sign 3 young dps now if they choose, and it would count to 150k per player against the cap?

Singh mentions the Montreal match as woeful.
IDK, I was expecting a shellacking. I thought we did well all considering.
I think the Chicago game is the TSN Turning Point of my concern.

I agree. I thought we were much better in Montreal than in Chicago.
I don't require us to win, but I do want to see improvement/what we're trying to do. I did under Javier Perez and supported the team through Covid. Under BB I see no progress.

So there are two different youth initiatives. The first is a Young Designated Player. This is a player 23 or younger who signs as a designated player. They can have any salary and any transfer fee. If they are 20 or younger their cap hit is $150k. If they are 21-23, their cap hit is $200k.

If a team has a young DP or their 3rd DP makes $1.6M or less, a team gets 3 U22 slots. Otherwise they get one U22 slot. U22 slots can be used for players making $612k or less. They carry a cap hit of $150k for players 20 or younger and $200k otherwise. Players can continue to stay as a U22 until the year he turns 25. The real advantage with U22 slots however, is transfer fees don't count against their cap hit.

Hope that helps, these rules are too confusing.

Got it - see it now. That's so confusing and pretty disingenuous from Manning.

I guess the retort to that/our concern is we aren't seeing the trees but for the forest?
Or is it the forest but for the trees?
    I give up.

    You can't build 3/4 of a D line in a winter window.

The D men from Europe available in that window are not all that good.

Could we possibly get back Tony Gallacher or is that a big no?

And as for other defenders and CB's, can we not pick some temporarily from TFC II (if any are decent, I don't follow the roster) as well as the CPL? Surely there much be someone who can hold us over from the CPL?

He picked up a leg fracture back in April and was expected to be out for at least 3 months.

He went to the SPL in the offseason. Edit: Ouch, on the leg.

He probably wouldn't take it, but we could try and beat all the big clubs in Europe (Barca, Newcastle, Tottenham, Sevilla) interested in Jason Denayer. He wants $6.5M (CAN, I converted it ) per season, apparently.

38 caps for Belgium, lockdown defender in ligue 1 for four seasons, currently a free agent.

I know some people don't like spending DP money on defenders, but if no one will give him what he's looking for, or we'd better it, a guy of that caliber would be worth it.

He's only 27 and probably wants more glory than we can afford to overcompensate with money. But if they were going to sign a DP defender, a guy of that level would probably make some people happier than an MLS guy.

The counter to this would be that they will be from MLS.

I will say it again, if TFC's (BB/BM) strategy at all involves a DP CB then just go big now...
    Walker Zimmerman + Eric Millar + 33%SellOn for JM-R.

    P.S.
Though my gut is telling me that if they do not have an indication already from Osorio that he wants to / will stay,
then they will need a DP at the MID; to address his loss and that of Bradley's eventually.

IMO, the most important interview segment out of the Monday's Bernardeschi TFC Presser,

is TSN's with Bill Manning at about 2:35 doing a Patches O'Houlihan 5D's of Dodge Duck Dip Dive Dodge with a simple pivot.
