One positive of COVID (I hate to word it this way, just can't come up with another way...) is that MLS teams will likely continue to fly charter rather than commercial. I would not want Insigne flying in economy for 5 hours from LA to Toronto.

There have been many similar conference calls with the media in other professional sports leagues during the Covid era that were broadcasted/streamed live.

I don't want to beat a dead horse, but as others have stated, I think a lot of people would have tuned in.

He'd still have plenty of leg room in economy.

Can he do it on a crisp September night with 200 odd Red Bull fans in the stands making a small amount of noise?

Nice little interview. Certainly didn't shoot down Belotti when mentioned.

I have nightmares of them bringing back Doneil Henry and TFC leading the league in penalty kicks given up in a single season.

We go there in April this year so Insigne will have to wait for that particular thrill.

The farthest road trip he will have to do is Miami.

I think the reason this announcement wasn’t pushed in a normal manner is obvious: it was done low key, because things aren’t sorted with Napoli.

It's pretty tricky for Insigne and Napoli right now. TFC has to respect that.

They found a way to get the word our nonetheless.

theres nothing to be sorted with napoli...their offer was lower and the player is allowed to sign elsewhere six month before the end of the contract

"I actually went to the Transfermarkt website and I looked up the Italian national team on what players were coming out of contract," Manning told reporters Saturday. "And Lorenzo was one of the few players that was coming out of contract. I started writing down players that I thought were world-class, that I thought would have commercial value in this market."
Manning's ability to scout top players is on par with what we do on this forum...

You explain it to their supporters if their captain is seen to be inappropriately focused on something other than Napoli business

LOL. It's one thing to scout though and it's another thing to get players to sign on the dotted line. Manning deserves all the credit in the world for pulling this off.

No? What if want him to arrive before July if they fall out of various competitions?

In the interview with Wellman, Manning said they brought a guy on staff just to help with Italian scouting & making connections.

Holy crap he's missing the initiation April 9th at 8pm at RSL. Which as far as I can remember, might be 15 degrees and a beautiful crisp clear evening; or -5 and 50 cm of snow.

I agree. Check the reaction of Napoli fans which are already all over social media.

Ranging from: "Congrats, thanks for your amazing service to our club and city, best of luck, I'm following Toronto FC now, your family will love it in Canada"
to "our management sucks, life sucks, should have offered you more"
to "oh well, that's not football over there, you will fall off the face of the footballing world, bad move, but Toronto is offering insane amounts, and that's all that matters now in awful modern football"
to "GTFO you traitor, how dare you announce in the middle of our season!!1!"

So the next shoe to drop will depend a lot on the status of the DP slots, I can not see anything happening without some clarity , its much of a risk if you do not have Jozy and Yef sorted? Jozy really could have the Reds in in between a rock and hard place. A buyout has to happen before the season for it not to count against the cap. Will be interesting to see how this shakes out.

Can they not just release Jozy if they are willing to payout the final year on his contract on the spot?

This is jaw dropping. This post should be memorialized somehow, we are going to want to refer back to this for a long time.

I really wish MLSE had done a better job diagnosing what went wrong here. Curtis was a symptom, not a cause.

The supporters are completely different there, their level of influence, and ability to intimidate, is no joke.

    Respect must be paid.

I can't imagine Bob Bradley not getting sick to the stomach about a quote like that. I don't know him that well, so I'm just guessing, but...

Oh and of course Juventus and Parma fans chiming in "ha ha Insigne sucks and is too old, you got ripped off, Giovinco was 10 times better."

Like it or not Transfermarkt is used by most clubs and agents as primary reference point.
